quote:What does God want? Does God want goodness or the choice of goodness? Is a man who chooses the bad perhaps in some way better than a man who has the good imposed upon him?

What do you guys think of the statement above? Just want some feedback and opinions..

If there was a god, I can't believe he'd create the universe, just so we could be nice to each other, so he can let the nice people into heaven.

I agree in that God would prefer people to be good through choice, but I can't see him/it punishing the bad either.

From Inferno by Dante

"So I said to him: 'Master, will these torments Grow greater still after the great sentence, Will they be less, or burn as they burn now?'

His answer to me was: 'Go back to your science, which teaches that the more perfect a thing is, the more it feels pleasure, and pain as well.

Although these people, because they are accursed, Will never reach the point of true perfection, they expect to approach it more nearly afterwards.'

My freind gave me an anwser that I found pretty intresting...

quote:God wants the choice of goodness "free will" this is the choice of accepting or rejecting God's love, ultimately this defines goodness. and yes the man who chooses bad is in some way better rather than the man with good imposed on him because the former made a choice and the latter was given a choice.
