I wouldn't normally bring this up, but Beany has been asking for some fresh topics, so here's one i've been thinking about.
In Europe a few hundred years ago, there was a group called the Illuminati. Their goal was to control the world. According to the story, the group was made up of the most wealthy people in the world at the time. They would use subtle political and economic strategies to further their goal. However, the group was discovered and disbanded.
There are many people who believe the group still exists but no longer calls themselves the illuminati. It is believed that the U.N., Worldbank and the IMF are all offshoots of the ultimate goal. In fact, globalization is happening so fast a one world government isn't an absurd thought.
Now compare this with Revelation in the new testament. Revelation talks about a "beast" who is worshipped by all men, who is praised. Joining the world under one ruler, who is also their God. Revelation talks about the mark of the beast, which everyone will be required to take in order to do buisness in the global economy. The technology for such a thing already exists (http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=32572). The word "illuminati" means roughly "one who brings light" and Satan has been referred to as "the light bringer".
All this stuff is pretty crazy, and I'm not going to sit here and say that its true, but more and more things are falling into place that make this frightening story frighteningly believable.
There's lots of websites about the Illuminati both from Christians and non-christians, but i think it's interesting how this theory fits pretty cleanly with revelation.
Chew on it,
