The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
I think that by any reasonable definition it's a subset of Christianity.

I am so sick of people writing that any religion is christian... blah blah blah. Just because you believe in god that doesn't qualify you as a christian. Mormans don't even believe that jesus christ was god or anything above a good proffet. They just put that in their name to try and attract people to the religion. Actually a better word would be. their CULT

Mormons believe Jesus walked in the Americas. They're definately a branch of christianity, if a singularly stupid one.

Mormonism is almost certianly false. There's a thread on this. I'll find it.
"The Christian religion, founded on the life and teachings of Jesus." <- that's how dictionary.com defines Christianity.
I've studied Mormonism quite a bit, and by that definition, I'd say they are Christians, but i have a hard time saying it's a "sect" of Christianity because it's a hell of a lot more than just interpreting the bible differently or differing worship styles. They believe in Jesus as the son of god. They do not believe in the Trinity, so they don't believe Jesus was god. It does seem like they hold their "prophet" Joey Smith a bit higher than Christ, which I think is a bit confusing, and Joseph Smith has been proven to be a false "prophet".

yeah, Mormonism is pretty screwed up, but so are most types of christianity... I dont hate them or anything though... I would consider myself a Christianarchist, in that I want nothing to do with any of the denominations and crap, particularly the ones who go around preaching hate.
Mormonism are one of the more harmless cults out there. I think they're quaintly backward. Kinda like Leprechauns http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)

No, but I'd say that if you believe in Christ's divinity you are.
Unless you have a more reasonable definition?
i myself have studied quite a bit of mormonism in comparison with a handfull of other religions, and have found an aweful lot of insite. the most interesting arguement is that Amos 3:7 in the bible says that God only reveals his secrets to the prophets. and infact they are the only religion today that claims divine authority, and a prophet who receives modern day revelation. i also find it interesting that there are prophesies in the bible pertaining to the forthcoming of the book of mormon.

2CB4ME, i agree when you study the bibles supposed "prophecies" of Mormonism are pretty compelling. However, take a look at this:
http://www.carm.org/lds/ldspapyri.htm
The foundation of Mormonism lies in Joeseph Smith's divine translation of the sacred, golden plates (which may, or may not actually exist). Because J.S. doesn't have the power of divine translation (read the link), the church is false.

Depends on what you define as Christianity. Even from a non-christian perspective, they are Christian in the sense that the Gnostics, Nazarenes, Ebionites, and all other "Christian" sects were Christians.
In other words, they may believe they're Christian, but they aren't by today's standards.
However, they are nothing compared to the messy-antics (Messianics) who try to say that their form of Christianity is Judaism. Their is NO such thing as a Judaism that believes some man-god died for their sins.

On the contrary, this Jew believes there is actually some pretty good evidence that there were. I'm leaning towards the possiblity that the Cherokee are descended from "lost" Jews.
