View Full Version : Is it Atheism?

When I was younger, I was always encouraged/forced to go to this place called church. My parents always told me it would make me a better person, and it would save me from the eternal fires of Hell (which I thought was weird because they never went themselves). And being scared and gullible as I was, I always went, did my thing, read the bible, and got my ass spanked for pushing this girl off the hood of a car. Anyways somewhere I picked up that God threw everything together in 7 days (or 6).

But when I reached high school, I learned about the Darwin Theory in Biology, it began to change what's been fed to me all those years. Even though the theory had holes in it. Then I became confused, started to read about other creation theories, some which sorta made sense and those that were whacked out (illusionists).

So far I reached the conclusion that it could be anything as far as creation goes, I don't see how people can be so sure on what the real truth is, could it be the divine plan of some deity? Could it be we were all sludges that crawled out of the primordial glop? Or is it that we're all just bacteria growing in a petri dish in some alien laboratory?

Can you believe in Christian principles but not believe in God?

Is there a religion that's based on questioning all the others? Or is that just stupid?

Or maybe it doesn't matter, fuck it.. Any thoughts?

Thats seems more agnostic. Unless you're alot more certain there isn't a God than you sounded in your post.

You don't have to be an atheist to believe in evolution.

I beleive evolution is true, i mean look at goerge bush...hahaha..sorry Its just that what happened before the evolution happened? How did the first living things get here? And how DID we evolve? Im more of an agnostic kinda person, I think there is a god but i also dont understand how there is one, and which religon has the right beliefs...

That reminds me of another point, if the theoretical 'God' does show up and start interacting with us, think how things will change if you could just say "Yo G-Dizzle what's crackin?" And he would appear physically to provide us with advice. Which can be good or bad, I probably wouldn't wanna know..

The question of evolution has basicaly nothing to do with with whether your atheist or christian. the concept of evolution is that things change over time, it does not give an explanation for the begginning of time. think about it like this. if two tall people have kids, their kids are more likely to be tall. i think even the most idiotic of christians will agree to that, then, if their children marry a tall people, there kids will in turn be taller. so if the tall people keep breeding for a few million generations, and then some short people do the same, obviously after a long long long time they are going to be two basically distinct groups. now think about this over billions and billions of years, and wham, that is how things evolve. to deny evolution is to deny inherited characteristics.

the question of creation is a mystery, as at this point in our evolution we do not know what happend way back when, but we do know that the earth has been around alot longer than three thousand and some years, which debucks the theory presented in the bible. which we also know is a mere book written by mere people, as prospective and oppurtunist as they may be, and its influence in the 1600 years since its creation has not been to answer any questions for us but merely to control and manipulate people.

could be it is the divine plan of some deity, but until that is proven, why assume a supernatural cause?

Anythings possible http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif) Why would it matter if we began our evolution as slime?

Xtian principles mean many different things to many different people, however Buddha is an example of one who advised that one should test everything.

Trouble is, following the herd/fashion/majority. The sheep don't know the way, they follow any direction the first one to make a movement goes.

Usually the first movement is from fear and this is a well known religious principle - "facts open the mind, emotions open the wallet". The most powerful fears being 'fear of rejection' and 'fear of loss'. These equate to the doctrine of 'the judgement' and the doctrine of being 'eternally lost'.

Negative fearmongering aside, there are many good people who are sincerely deluded http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif)

Yeah it tastes the same but with only 1/3 the saturated fat.
