the reason many psudo-eduacted people believe in god in this day of big-bang theory is the theory 'if the universe began, who began it, and since it's going so well (proof: we evolved) who orchestrated it. the universe can't have just sprung out of nothing.

but this is just putting back the fact that we don't know how the universe began for definate. even if a super being created the universe, how did he get there? but of course he's infinate so can exist beyond space and time so he didn't need a 'beginning'

But if a 'god' can be infinate, why can't the universe too? big-bang-big-crush. matter can come out of energy, ask Heed about it.

as for those who still say god created the earth and adam and eve and all that (creationists) and evolution was made up just to spite you, can one of you explain how this belief is sustainable in todays world? probably not because your not allowed on the internet or god will smite you

I do understand why beliefs are important to some people and as long as believers don't try blowing me up to get me to agree with their beliefs i don't have a problem with that.

but when people get to the point where they would rather pray then to have a life saving operation i think thats religion gone wrong. praying when there is no way medical science can help you is ok, but praying cos your friend is smoking cannabis is delerious, just cos a believer as personal view about something like drugs, they take it for granted that their god will agree with them.

when people convert to a religion it is often because they have some hardship in their life, or during adolescence when they can't deal with all the things happening, they need support, and religion can make them feel supported.

but religions keep many people as believers by fear-mongering, praise god for he will lead you to salvation and if you don't you shalt burn in hell!!! religions don't work by making god out to be some nice guy who wants everyone to be friends, religions work by portraying god to be someone who wants the same things as the founders of that religion.

then their are those who believe in god outside of religion, just for the sake of explaining the unexplainable. but science admits it is still working at this. if it keeps them happy in the meantime thats fair enough.

if god was infinate we'd still be waiting for the universe to begin...

I agree with you on a few things there. Just a note though, I believe a God exists yet I completely accept science. I believe we evolved, and I believe that the universe could have always existed, or perhaps even popped into existance.

If the universe did have a begining what was there before it began, nothing? If there was nothing there were none of these laws of physics we currently have, so in all probability a ball of matter could have just popped into existance. I don't think any of us will ever be able to understand complete nothingness, so theres no way to say something like 'if there was nothing and no God, nothing would ever exist'. You don't know that because you don't know, and probably never will know what 'nothing' is. Its a concept in your mind you know next to nothing about. All of our minds.

But I do believe a God exists. And I feel science in no way negates the existance of a God. Whos to say that if theres a God he created this universe at all? Perhaps he simply created a blank plane of existance and let it go ahead on its own. There are infinite possibilities.

Yeah, there are infinite possibilities.

The only way to distinguish which is correct is by looking at the evidence (which, as I'm sure you'll all sick of hearing, is nonexistant - much like gods!)
