O, but think of all the wonderful history we've gotten from those various conflicts!

Catholics, Lutherens, and Anglicans have similar worship methods, but Catholics and the other two have fundemental disagreements with interpretations of the bible. Basically, all the sects are divided because of either the desire to worship in a different way or differences in how they believe the bible is saying.
Some of the things that people will say range from somewhat trivial to pretty major:
Catholic: When you take communion, you are eating the body and blood of Christ.
Protestant: We take communion as a symbol of rememberance. Obviously we are eating crackers and grapefruit.
Catholics: When you die with unresolved sin, you go to purgatory
Protestant: There is no mention of Purgatory in the bible, therefore it does not exist.
Catholics: Sex is an act strictly for procreation, therefore all forms of birth control are forms of abortion.
Protestant: Sex is a gift from God reserved for married people. While having sex outside of marriage is a sin, a married couple can, and should have sex as often as they'd like.
There's some examples, i hope that helps.

The differences are many.
The irrationality, fear and obscurantist worldview are universal.
But perhaps Christian fundamentalism, as exemplified by the religious right, is the primary example for this conclusion.

He likes to sound like he understands the psychological differences of the various Christian groups.
Whether or not he actually does is something I'll leave up to everyone else to decide.

What I find funny is that oft-times Protestant sects teach that Catholics aren't Christian, and occasionally, Catholics teach that protestants aren't Christian.
Christianity is dying, it has broken into countless petty arguements over interpretations of a book. With no unity it's going to fall apart. Logic can't hurt them, many are either brainwashed into thinking the entire Bible is factual, while others consider anything that can be shown to be false a parable, so they are immune to logic; however, any structured system falls apart if every group is fighting with every other group.
