We humans just love anthropomorphism. We ascribe our properties, base and astounding, to pretty much everything. I think God happened to come about in this manner. Nature amazed us, and dominated us. We are powerless in comparison to nature; no matter how destructive or creative we can be, a monsoon, tornado, hurricane, thunderbolt, blizzard could kill any of us. The richest man in the world could be struck by lightning. Nature is indeed a great force, and we are utterly beneath it, and nature, my dear friend, is a basic pyramid in a 3D modeling program. Now, humans, in our infinite pride and greed, decided we needed to own nature, or atleast pretend there is some sort of control over it, and begins the first extrusion.
Now, this control begins first by saying spirits control nature; people were so afraid of the base elements at this point that purpose was of no concern. However, once the first extrusion was completed, a crash occured as people began to fear death and purposeless life. A second extrusion began.
Human traits were now applied to the spirits that controlled nature, and thus, the pantheons were born. Now, not only was nature controlled, but these were humanized spirits controlling nature, with specific purposes in their 'life', which gave hope to the masses that they too had a purpose. Now though, with protection and purpose, how did it all happen? Thus begins the 3rd extrusion.
One of these humanized spirits happened to be the true source of the other spirits, this spirit was not a god, but God; an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent spirit with all the base attributes of the human mind, benevolence, vengeance, hate, love, and simplicity. This spirit allowed people to feel like there truly was control in nature, and thus in life. Not even death was a worry anymore, because this benevolent spirit would surely allow us to become spirits. Now with a complete plate-like model, all the worries were put aside...but then some people began to wonder, why, after figuring everything out, does nature still harm us if a benevolent spirit controls it all? And thus, an error message popped up, "Warning, cannot process this much bullshit." A fully anthropomorphized God with utter kindness and forgiveness was still killing us with his toy called nature? This thought must surely be a virus, slowly eating away each vertex of the model...this virus is called science.
It explained away the spirits, explained away the purpose, and explained away the God...almost. Just as that last single point was about to be erased, someone decided to save the file as read only...ah damn, nothing can happen now. Science had erased the validity of the base that led to God, yet for some reason, the concept of God remained, despite it having no base. Those who held on to God chose to believe there were still spirits and meaning despite that not being the case. And thus, a single point remains, though some like to imagine they have a backup copy of the whole damned plate.
And yes, I am on drugs.
