Well the thing is I'm not sure what I am. I mean I don't believe in god although I do believe in higher beings and more intelligent ones.

If you don't believe in a god or gods, then yes, you are an atheist. That's all it applies to. Welcome to the world of godlessness. The meaning of these terms has been so muddied that it doesn't really matter anymore; whatever you call yourself you'll probably have to explain your position anyhow.

Atheist is slightly more "correct", but it's less confrontational to call yourself an agnostic or something. Whatever.

Uh, no.

A theist belives that there is a god. An atheist belives that there is not a god. An agnositc isn't sure, but want's to find out.

The terms are not interchangeable. Call yourself what you are.
