Sorry its taken so long to post this, and I still haven't got everything together, but I thought Id better do it or id never get around to it. Anyway...
"Bring in your idols to tell us what is going to happen. Tell us what is going to happen. Tell us what the former things were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come, tell us what the future holds, so that we may know that you are gods." - Isaiah 41:22-23
Essentially the Hebrew God, Yahweh, is laying down a test of divinity. Miracles can be explained away or counterfeit. Revelations; subjective and questionable. But prophecy....
If you say something will happen in the future, it either occurs or it does not.
So this is the challenge that Yaweh sets, and by doing so, provides us with a means of seeing whether he indeed is (a) God.
Does anyone know of instances where someone has told us "what the future holds" accurately and clearly? (i.e. not as a result of "shoehorning" retrospectively?)
Edit: I've just realised i've misspelt Yahweh throught this post....
