In our history lesson we got told they were black people because god cursed some dude and they are his children, which in my opinion is BS. This goes against the christian 'god loves everyone' (apparently apart from the egyptians. My question is did god support slavery in america???

In the event that God does indeed exist...
I find it highly unlikely that He'd support slavery. For what reason would He? How, in any way, does it benefit or satisfy Him? What would be the purpose?
Makes abosulutely no sense to me. Why support slavery here in Amarica, what sense does it make? Blacks were not the only peoples enslaved here in America, Idians were as well. It's not like white people have never been slaves, to think He'd support it 'Here in America' would makes absolutely no sense.
Every race of man has been accustume, at one point or another, to slavery. The only type of people that have never succumb to slavery, were the rich people who stayed rich. When blacks were being shipped to the Americas, who do you think helped them? Rich blacks in Africa, that had strength in numbers and weapon advancements.
:Opss ment 'accustome':

dude
i bet god loves the egyptians too, he just had to smack them down cuz they were being shitty. and if you go to a public school and your teacher said that black people are cursed, then you could get some money out of it or at least get him fired (if hes an asswipe)
no god doesnt support slavery.
Yah he probably doesnt man. But he said for everyone to serve everyone else its like we are all slaves to each other. Something along those lines.

There's a significant difference between choosing to serve others and being forced to do so.

I guess he didn't. Maybe I can still sue the history teachers. They might have made all the christians racist.

That scripture is totaly misunderstood. Its taken from Genesis 9:25, where Noah is quoted as saying: “Cursed be Canaan. Let him become the lowest slave to his brothers.”
it doesnt say anything about skin colour.
Canaan's descendants were not blacks. They were lighter skinned peoples who inhabbited the land of Canaan no less. After the exodus, the jews conquered the Canaanites, and due to there depraved morals (they sacrificed children alive in fire ect) God decreed for their culture to be destroyed. Some were taken as captives and put into slavery, so fullfilling what Abraham said. But God put laws down to protect slaves, and so Jewish slave system was far more humane than any other surrounding nations.
Any slave's master would be put to death if they beat a slave to death, raped a slave ect. Slaves under the mosaic law were treated as hired labourers.
So god does not think blacks are cursed. He gave provsision for slavery to be humane under his people.
Say that to your teacher, he will most probably be suprised.

Thanks. You know a hell of a lot about that. I doubt my history teacher will care though. I also doubt he can tie his own shoes.
thats not fucking history. go to a school where god is not mentioned.
if god were a good honorable being, he would not support slavery....
i guess the christian god would though.

How can you do history without mentioning God(s)? Our history is filled with accounts of their involvement.

No way. God gave us two great gifts, life and free will. Slavery negates free will, and often life itself, therefore is directly against god's plan.

Like with most issues, the Bible can be used both to support slavery and oppose it. It's pretty open to interpretation.

i think my interpretation is pretty much accurate. i havent found anyone able to disagree with it and provide a argument to defeat it yet http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)
Deuteronomy 20:10-20:15
When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace. If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labour and shall work for you. If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay seige to that city. When the Lord your God delivers into your hand, put the sword all men in it. As for women, the children, the livestock, and everything in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the Lord your God gives you from your enemies. This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at ta distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.

This seems to just go back to the old 'black is evil, black is devil' thinking of early USA times. The fact that someone would say that blacks were cursed is kind of weird. If to be cursed means having wings for legs and an arm for a wang, then curse me. Btw, what the hell kind of school do you go to?!?!?
