It seems as though everyone I hear or see treats faith or religion like it is something you choose independent to itself and that atheism is the solution for intellectuals. It would seem to me that it would be far more intelligent to first find your own values, morals and other minutia that you believe for yourself, whether through proof or conviction. Then, find the faith or religion that describes what you believe. Your lives wouldn't change and neither would your hearts, all you would do is live your life as you had. By doing that, by anyones estimation you would only be honoring the god you serve and it wouldn't be lip service, either. Anyways, truth has no place in faith, only logic and emotion seeing as how their is no current way to concretely prove the existence or lack thereof for any particular god. Just a suggestion.

Truth has no place in faith, sure - but why is faith a good thing?

Why is it a good idea to believe in something you can't support?

I think usuing religion to back up your preconceptions is a terrible idea. Far better to seek evidence, theorize and ditch the "values, morals and other minutia" that don't have any basis.

...Dude, is there any other way to choose a religion?

Seems pretty dim for you to even say that, considering you say you see people choosing their religion, and then complain by saying people should choose their religion?

I'm sorry, I just don't get what you're saying...

Craftian! 'Ditch the Morals?'!!

Are you sure that would be such a good idea... a bunch of half religious people running around completely moral-less? Every day you'd think you're reading the UN Digest when you see the terrible things people do to each other in the name of their moral-less religions! It'd be like a crusade on every street!

Well...maybe not every street...but you get the point http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif) I'm not saying it was a good point, but bagh!...

I've got to learn to keep my posts to the games forum and to enunciate my thoughts better. What I meant was that people shouldn't choose their religion without first finding the morals they hold. Take what you feel as an atheist and find a religion that matches. It's like matching shapes in kindergarten: you go by the outline not by the color. The color is just the name and other dogmatic bullshit that people should ignore anyway.
