I was studying for Science finals and stumbled upon the Hale Bopp comet. I suddenly remembered the Heaven's Gate suicide.

Now my question is: if your spouse, child, or sibling was involved in a cult like this, and you knew they would die, would you be accepting and let them do what they want, or would you put up a fight and try to convince them to come back (even though the chances of them converting is pretty small)?

As horrible as it is to let somebody ruin their life, it is their life to ruin. So long as they seem competent in their decision, I'd have no problem with them doing it. If they seemed like they've been kept away from the outside as to avoid exposure to reality, I'd attempt to expose them so they can make a better judgement call as to whether they wish to continue or not.

Hehehe, my mate and i was discussing this the other day, maybe i should tell him bout this site. Anyway, i personally would allow them to do what they want, as it is their life, however, i would want to know why they wanted to do and make sure they are fully aware of all the implications this would mean, but if they understood all of that, as painful as it would be, i would have to let them go.
