I dont particularly believe in God but i dont think that Darwinism disproves it and i dont disbelieve, but i was wondering, ...if a Muslim extremist is bought up from birth to beleive that the best thing in the world is to die in Jihad and, as a result of this he blows up himself and a load of christian children, would he go to hell (if we assume that the 72 virgins is untrue) under our Christian god despite doing what he himself honestly beleived to be right. Same with the IRA, if one of them blows up a school, mall etc.. on the assumption that he has to do it for the greater good (meaning that there is no evil in his actions) would he gop to hell?

All we can state for sure is that their physical body is going to be wormfood down the line.

I seen a doco the other day about Dietrich Bonhoeffer (champ). Anyway, he was a German christian theologian and a convinced pacifist. He ended up becoming involved in the assinination plots on Hitler. He spent a lot of time agonizing over whether it was right to be involoved or not. I've heard people citeing (sp?) him as saying that "As a pacifist I can't, but as a christian I must".

Edit: For him it wasn't a question of "what is right" i.e. according to his beliefs, but rather "what would God have us do".

No, he goes to paradise with his 72 virgins.

The funny thing about this thread is that it instantly destroys the validity of Islam, and puts christianity above it.

I am one that says, all religions are equal.

Equal to pig shit.

Under what god?

If its under the christian one then no STRAIGHT to hell. I did some research into christianity and was appauled when I found out that if you don't accept Jesus as the son of god blah blah you go to hell! So even if you were a good person who spent his whole life doing charitable things but were an atheist youre going to hell, nice.

i know, it strikes me as a bit of a contradiction that an allegedley loving and forgiving god would blast me to hell for praying to a golden cow.

Well, yea, because according to Christianity, you're neglecting the fundamental origins of good and evil.

Say you bought your girlfriend some flowers after an argument. She decides that, by buying the flowers, you are sorry for necessitating the argument and appreciate her side of the conflict. She forgives you, and an hour later, she's covering her ears with her knees and practicing Stomp on your ceiling.

If you had truly bought the flowers out of brooding guilt and a veil of humility - if you were truly sorry for your actions - the result will be a fruitful relationship.

If you bought the flowers out of a desire to bend her like Beckham INSTEAD of a genuine sincerity, the result will be a false relationship, insincere and illusory at its very core, doomed to decay the spirit.

Thus is the result of postmortem redemption in relation to Christianity.

I think it's very much possible for someone to be genuinely good without a belief in God. Not everyone acts on fear and greed. Yes, most people are going to, but not everyone does.

Some people just don't beleive, they have the chance to, but they simply don't have any faith, and coming from a fouteen year old Catholic, I think thats the reason, they have no faith, but then, I wouldn't know, because I don't read the Bible much.

Faith is a commodity hard to come by in today's world.

atheists dont believe in heaven or hell so it doesnt matter. If you are an atheist and worried about going to hell then you are completely going against your beliefs

yes but if christianty is true then those people who may not have even heard of god or had a bad experience of it are technically going to hell. I'm not saying i'm worried i'm just saying its a horrible philosophy
