View Full Version : just a question

Here's the scenario:
Your memory has just been completely erased. You have no memories of anything at all, not even who or what you are. You look at yourself in the mirror (you don't know what a mirror is, but it gives you a sense of self), and then look at the world around you and ask yourself: "how did all of this come into being?"
Would you automatically believe that you and your surroundings are the work of some sort of creative force? If not, would you automatically believe that there is no creative force, that the world around you was not created, it just "is"?

That question is nonscense.
First of all you don't know what it would be like to lose all your memories, so to answer that question is just a guess.
Second you would probably be so frightened from your situation of knowing nothing that the concept of God wouldn't even enter your mind.
This is childish.

My guess is that when you take the time to think about it you would have the same conclusion you do now. Some people are predisposed to mystical and unseen answers, some are predisposed to cold logic. I'm disposed towards cold logic...I just go about reasoning in a way that disabled me from believing in a god, and I've tried really fucking hard to believe. I just can't do it.

Tottaly disregarding that I would be scared shitless from having no memories or knowing what the hell is going on I would just believe that everything just "is." Having no memories means that I wouldnt be able to even imagine a "creative force" because I would of never of heard of it making it unimaginable. Think of it like this, can you come up with a way to explain how it physically feels to do something you never experienced? You may be able to guess based on previous possible similiar experiences but you could never really know.
[Edit] One thing I forgot to add is you would base all your ideas regarding "Creation" as what you know now. Considering you have no God teachings you would just think the world is as you see it thus making it the "is" choice. Not learning of any God would make you not even be able to think of that cause, for all you know that possibilty dosen't exist.
Sorry I sorta rambled, im really tired, and I got school in a few hours.

Hmm...your scenario nullifies itself.
If your memory had been erased, and you didn't even know who YOU were, how would you know WHAT to think, let alone grasp the concept of language ? (of which would be necessary to mull over and ponder the enormities of such a topic)
TRITE.
You are describing Adam, basically. And he knew from the beginning who his creator was, because God revealed Himself to him.
I guess in that way, Adam was lucky, because all we are left with now is FAITH to prove to ourselves that God exists. That is ever so much more difficult...

I am not the end all/be all of Christianity and it's many mysteries, but I would be interested in finding out about your experiences in trying to find a path to believe in.
Why, or why not ? Where have you been spiritually ? Why did you feel the need to try so hard to believe ?
I would like to point out that it is normal for the extremely intellectual to find themselves incapable of believing in God.
(not saying that most Christians are stupid, or anything...but it is much harder for people ruled by only logic, and not spirituality, to understand the essence and purpose of an omnipotent Creator)
God also suggests that we come to Him like children...which may seem, to some, like BLIND faith, when in reality it is PURE faith.
A child just believes that his mother and father will take care of his every need...without even questioning it.
It is that kind of innocence (unjaded/unscathed) that God seeks...and that is almost impossible for the overtly intelligent.
I believe (and this is just my own thinking) that this stems from the hardships life...those that experience life to the extreme, or those that suffer much, are more keenly aware of themselves and others, and are thus far more apt to be skeptical and analytical. (this is not to say that there aren't intelligent people that have not suffered, even a little. There are exceptions to every rule)
Thinking yourself into a circle just proves to bring you around, if you know what I mean.
