View Full Version : Satanism Is Nothing Like Catholocism(sp?)

I've seen afew people state that Satanism is inversed Catholocism(sp?), but if I may, here is some statements from a sect of Satanism that states that it is not:

quote:

Taken From http://www.churchofsatan.com/Pages/Enema.html

, A Text On How Satanism Is Preceived In The Wrong Context By Some Satanists By Someone Going By The Name Of "Nemo"

From the beginning, the Church of Satan has made it explicitly clear that Satan is not an entity, conscious or preconscious. For example:

“In LaVey's view, the Devil was not [an anthropomorphic diety], but rather a dark, hidden force in nature responsible for the workings of earthly affairs, a force for which neither science nor religion had any explanation.”—Burton Wolfe, Introduction to The Satanic Bible.

Other quotes from Dr. LaVey's own pen in The Satanic Bible reiterate this theme:

“...the allegorical personage...” (page 29).

“...Satan, the personification of the Left Hand Path.” (page 52).

“Satan...merely represents a force of nature—the powers of darkness which have been named just that because no religion has taken these forces out of darkness.” “...this many faceted key to the unknown—which the Satanist chooses to call ‘Satan’.” (page 62).

Again and again the Church of Satan has patiently explained to all who would ask, read or listen that Satan is a symbol.

Yet how many times do we see people advocating a return to the superstitious nonsense of belief in a “god”? How often do we see so-called “Satanists” missing the most important single point of Satanism?

I am not a Satanist, but I just thought I would show people that Satanism in the origional, LaVey context is NOT the reverse ideology of Catholics, but is a religion without Gods, but is a religon based on reality and the way things interact within each other.

Sorry to bother everyone, and thank you for your time http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

*Catholicism*

I was one of those people that said Satanism is the reverse of Catholicism.

I came to that conclusion from reading those testimonial links that you posted in another thread.

What I should have said was that some of the "followers" of Satanism just fall into the same trap people of Catholicism do.

Example: Sceptics or (people who are pre-satanist) ask for proof of why they should believe in god. They say they get no response from praying to heal their emotional or life problems, but then all of a sudden when they pray to Satan everything gets better.

Satanist parallel, a quote from this site. (http://www.angelfire.com/empire/serpentis666/TESTIMONIAL.html)

“While I still had depression, I asked "Father Lucifer, have you left me as well??" After that, I FELT most wonderful energy in my life. I believe that was Father's energy that was every milimeter in my body. I was depressed, after that I start to laugh, cry and sing. It was BEAUTIFULL experience. I rarely cry as I'm "cold" person, but whenever I THINK about Father my eyes get wet, and I can FEEL his love and presence.”

This is what I meant by the reverse of Christianity, there is no real proof that the reason this person felt “wonderful energy in his life” is because Satan or God did it.

At one point satanism was a reverse of catholic mass. Modern satanism has evoled since that time and no longer follows the same rituals of the past.

think of an outsiders view. both have strange meetings and wierd rites. they both try conjure up a supernatural being to do thier bidding. they are both based on unsubstantiated doctrine. they are both dangerous (although ironically, catholics have a history of MUCH greater violence than satanists).

they seem damn similar to me

Yeah... that is the JOS(Joy Of Satan) point of view about Satanism.

In Satanism, to my current knowledge there are 3 main "groups".

JOS, who believe in Satan as being an actual being capable of everything a "God" is, yet has divided the world into different parts and has different Demons and Daemons rule over different parts.

COS is the "origional" modern Satanic belief which is the idea that Satan is the enbodyment of all that we do not understand in the world, and all that is unknown. They do not do anything, nor relate to anything anti-christian.

Dabblers are the true thing most people think of when they think of Satanists. These are the people that are just into it for the shock and awe effect. They really do not follow any of the forms of Satanism, but only do what they hear from rumors and other things. They do not really know anything about Satan other then the teachings of him in the christian bible, and that is why they state they practise it. They attempt to get the shock and awe effect of being associated with an "entity" that is seen as being pure evil and pure destruction.

This is seen in an example of some bands:

quote:

Taken From http://www.black-goat.com/faq.php

1.1.2. Are Slipknot "satanists"?

If you're using the judeo-satanic visuals Slipknot employs on their stage set, album covers, and merchandise as grounds for them being a satanist then you certainly know nothing about the religion at all. Satanism is a separate religion, its no different from Buddhism, Wicca, Taoism, and others. The reports you hear about satanists sacrificing animals, engaging in mignight orgies, burning churches, etc. are URBAN MYTHS. People who commit such acts are called anti-Christian, not satanists.

Anti-Christians are people who do things that desecrates christianity because they believe it makes them look evil. Scrawling 666 on your notebook for starters is considered anti-Christian because according to the bible, it stands for the number inscribed on the head of the anti-Christ when he/she appears during the time of the Revelation. The goat symbolizes the face of the devil or the shape of the baphomet, again: according to christian beliefs, and so on and so forth. Most bands who uses these symbols are just doing it to attract attention and scare people....nothing more.

Slipknot may be considered anti-Christian because of their prolifient use of these symbols, but they already admitted that the use of it are for entertainment and shock purposes only.

That quote is basicly WHY dabblers generally do what they do. They want to be seen; most dabblers are "social outcasts", and have given up on doing what society sees as correct and "pure", and would rather make a name of themselves by taking the name of a religion associated with love, trust and purity and trek that name through the mud.

For those that do not believe that Satanism believes in those ideals, here are the 11 rules of the earth. These are the COS ideals, which can be seen as the Satanic "10 Commandments".

quote:

Taken From http://www.churchofsatan.com/Pages/Eleven.html

The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth

by Anton Szandor LaVey ©1967

[Spanish, Croation]

1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.

2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.

3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.

4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.

5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.

6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.

7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.

8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.

9. Do not harm little children.

10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.

11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

True, some of these "rules" are rather barbaric by todays standards with the "destroy him" and what not, but these are the rules of a religion that claims stupidity is the same as the catholics "seven deadly sins".

I apologuise for bothering everyone with this topic, it's just I believe that everyone should have as much information at hand as they can on all subjects so that humanity can learn from what which it has done wrong, and maybe create a society unlike ours.... by that, I mean one that actually works and is respectable.

Again, I am not a satanist, I just wish for people to know as much about everything as they can, so they can make decisions about different things without worring about what may come of it; others have had to make the same choice, and no matter the choice you make, others have taken it, and are there to help you.

I apologuise for bothering everyone, and please have a nice day.
