I decided to post this here, rather than in media or b&m, thinking there would be more intelligence here, but the homophobic asshole here makes me question that now. Anyway. . . .

The BC cartoon strip pisses me off, with its blatant and simple-minded Christian bias. Today it went way over the top, when an ant suggested that ACLU members would go to hell because they are trying to keep mandated prayer out of schools--never mind that that promotes religious freedom.

BC is rarely funny anyway, but this bullshit really fries my shorts.

I bet I'm one for two anyway.

And no, I don't know how to post link. I do, however, know how to fry sausage links.

Although this is rather a simplification, didn't the bible pretty much state that as long as you believe in god, jesus and all that fun shit, you're going to heaven? So what does it matter how you worship, or if you make a few slip ups? The new testament god's all about love and peace, I thought...

Years ago BC was funny. But I guess in his old age he got born again and now it's Jack Chic lite. Your not alone in your feeling about religious bullshit in cartoons. Something I came across from Charles Schultz:

quote:Charles Schultz, American cartoonist (1922-2000).

In an interview in 1999, Schultz said that although his philosophical views evolved over the years, "the term that best describes me now is 'secular humanist.'" He went on to say, "I despise those shallow religious comics. Dennis the Menace, for instance, is the most shallow. When they show him praying--I just can't stand that sort of thing, talking to God about some cutesy thing that he'd done during the day. I don't think Hank Ketcham [Dennis' creator] has any deep knowledge of things like that." Schultz cringed at the mention of Family Circus, the strip by Bill Keane that is strewn with cutesy references to Jesus (who wants to protect children on school buses, but can't because of laws about separation of church and state!) and those sickly-sweet images of invisible deceased grandparents looming protectively over the kids. "Oh, I can't stand that," Schultz laughed. "You could get diabetes reading them, couldn't you?"
