I dunno if its just me but the threads in MGCBTSOOYG have been pretty crap lately. This one probably doesn't improve it much, but anyway.
What have people's best and worst experience of christianity/ the church/ a person claiming to be a christian been?
Mine probably really don't count as I'm a christian. But to get the ball rolling:
Best:
Probably when I started getting serious about actually trying to follow Christ.
Worst:
The massive divergence in ideas and doctrine and alot of the general bullshit that goes on. Things like the way you can find a group or book or something to justify pretty much whatever you want within christianit.

Best: None.
Worst:The fact that I'm forced to go to mass when I don't believe in God.
sellout, learn the definition of 'best', something doesn't have to be good to be the best.
this is a stupid thread, but now im here-
best- they do alot of good when it comes to helping people. the salvos and many other christian groups do alot of good with the homeless and misfortunate. while their motives may differ from mine, you cannot critise anyone helping someone else.
worst- its not hard to browse the forum and pick a thousand. im not going to bother going into it.

your not forced to, i used to think the same thing. But i talked to my mom, and made her cry, now i dont have to go. I didn't want/mean to make her cry, but it ended up helping. Is it catholic? just bring up alot of bullshi that catholicism teaches, it's usually not used, but it's in the books. Like about 6 years ago the pope realesed a document which basically states "all non-catholic souls are in dire peril", meaning that non catholics are damned. Tell her how that makes you feel, cause it should make you feel really bad.
If it's just a general protestant-based christian church, then bring up all the shit you disagree with in christianity. Look for all the horrible stuff, all of the bad history, and explain that as a loving human being, you can't allow yourself to follow such things. It's all bullshit really, becuase christianity has some amazing life lessons, but you can talk her out of it.
best-right now i'm in the process of converting to catholicism..I like going to mass. First time in my life I look forward to going to church. Get myself up at 7:30..
worst-thinking i was going to hell and there was no way i could save myself.

I like your thread.
Best: Going to contemporary services, cause they are just fun to sing loud and hang out.
Worst: When the priest tells you that you are going to hell cause of something you can't help. Uptight high church. (i.e. High Episcopal, Catholic church).
Though i'm agnostic, but I used to be heavily Episcopalian...lol.

Best: Getting a decent religion teacher for once who really opened my eyes on some things. Like the historical jesus vs. The Christ.
Worst: The camping trip with Fr. O'brian.

I haven't really had a good experience with Christianity, so my best isn't really good...
Best: The fellowship dinners...lots of fun and joy being spread around.
Worst: Massive hypocrisy and rampant homophobia. I was booted from a church for being bisexual, got a couple death threats (nice way to show love). That experience is what started to drive me away from Christianity.

Best: The air-conditioning ruled in the cathedrals, we were poor and didn't have an a/c at home. I never had to be cajoled into going to mass in the summertime.
Worst: Confession. I remember feeling cheated because you couldn't look them in the eye while you told off on yourself. I lived for spurning reactions back then. I even embellished some, just to turn up the shock factor a level or two. Still, it would have been more effective had I been able to see their face.
