I don't know if there has been a thread like this, but I'm curious as to how you all see God (or gods). Is he like a big dude, or is it more of a force? Does it sit there controlling what happens? Is the force shifted by prayer? Is it a big black woman drinking tea? What do you all think?

when i was a child i imagined god as being like that hologram face guy from the power rangers. his name started with a 'z' but i don't remember it.

Zordon...I can't believe I remember that either. I only saw two episodes.

Anyways, I picture god as a complex neural reaction in the mind. Though I am atheistic in nature and believe the only purpose a 'god' should serve is as inspiration.

It's tempting to say a cliche like "God is everything" but like well chewed gum that no longer leaves flavor on the tongue. Imagine the gears of a clockwork, all interlocking, all teeth (although not touching eachother physically) connected to everything, working independently of eachother yet as one.

Remembering that imagine your life, living it on your own, throughout your life coming into play in others lives then leaving their lives on the course of your own. The lives of your family moving independently and individually yet as one unit. All the lives being lived in your job, all the lives weaving in and out interlocking through commerce communication entertainment survival. All thoughts all actions orbiting eachother attracting and repelling itself and eachother without realizing. Revolving through a cycle towards and away itself through day/night, winter/summer, birth/aging, life/death.

Through these heart beats is "God's" breathing. In and out, and God itself.

This comes across as lame... but I see God similarly to 'The Force', in Star Wars.

An enormous weave of positive energy that exists in everything, overlapping existence and from which life is born; imperceptible and intangible to those without skill in harnessing the occult. Going along with this, I see Heaven in a similar way to Nirvana... we die and rejoin with the consciousness that spawned us.

This is a very, very brief outline of my thoughts on the matter.

Edit: For those who are interested, it's called Pantheism (God is the universe).

Well, from the Christian stand-point, we are made in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, it follows naturally, that God look just like we do, but without definate facial features - after all, we all do look different. No one can see his face nad survive, according to the Bible. The 'force' that exists in Heaven would be the Holy Spirit, which was formed because of the great love between Jesus and God. Jesus is kind of like some lackey, he just does things for God. The only part that doesn't make sense is if God is all-knowing or all-powerful. Really, he can't be both. If he is all-knowing, then he would see disasters and the like before they happen. He must not be all powerful, because then he would at least try and stop them, right? But if he can stop them, he must not know it's coming, because why wouldn't he at least lend a helping hand? Ah well, it's only a religion thing.

That isn't lame. It's a good comparison.

To me gods appearance is the universe. It's a body, alive, energy moving and interacting to perfectly represent the beauty of his consciousness.

God's "appearance" is not something that you or I would be able to comprehend. God is everything; God is nothing. We are crafted in God's image. You can spend their whole lives trying to understand this; you won't. Now try to comprehend the Trinity. Come back when you understand. http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

The author of the Gospel of John and Paul the Apostle say no one has ever seen God

(John 1:18) No one has ever seen God...

(1 Tim 6:16) ...whom no one has ever seen or can see;

Here Moses sees the God's backside

(Exo 33:20) But," he said, "you cannot see my face; for no one shall see me and live."

(Exo 33:23) then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back; but my face shall not be seen."

And here Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Issac, Jacob, and Amos get a full frontal view

(Exo 24:9-10) Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, and they saw the God of Israel. Under his feet there was something like a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness.

(Gen 26:2) The LORD appeared to Isaac and said...

(Gen 32:30) So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved."

(Amos 9:1) I saw the LORD standing beside the altar...

The name was never intended to be taken seriously. That's why there are a bunch of numbers after it. It's making fun of people with the word punk in their name. What's funny, though, is that I couldn't completely dedicate myself to a stupid name, so capitalization remained reasonable and the sequence of numbers actually means something. So really the whole point was defeated. But I could think of nothing better at the time.

In more recent times, however (and this is probably a result of being on totse for more than a year), I've grown used to the name and now feel like someone is addressing me whenever I see the word "Glitter". I've also been kind of listening to the New York Dolls lately. Noticing that glitter punk means more than I thought it did.

hahah good, I'm glad we ridicule the same kind of people. and yes the New York Dolls were quiet glittery in their own right, hahah. I do listen to punk, and to be honest when I was younger like 12 and 13 I would only wear band shirts my older cousin gave me, he gave me a casualties, operation ivy, black flag, dead kennedys, and minor threat shirt. I would just rotate them throughout the week until my mom would do wash. haha but i grew out of it, i still listen to it quiet a bit. People just don't realize that punk is dead. All i can say is that i'm really glad i grew outta that mindframe before all this emo/psuedo-punk shit got popular, for i would have surely sunk to that level in my susceptable pre-teen mind at the time.
