the whole problem of mainline religions is that:

a) Too contradictory. the bible, for example, states that ppl should be meek and turn the other cheek. and yet it says later that there should be an eye for an eye etc...

b) The Koran (i know thats not how its spelt) preaches tolerance and understanding yet also jihad. and sexual equality?

c) Dont get me started on the pisshead, freaky balls moonies, mormans and jehovas witnesses. they dont have a feking clue there.

Thoughts, please.....

Actually, it says eye for and eye, and later on to be meek and turn the other cheek.

That hardly covers all mainline religions, what about Budhism?

buddhism is contradictory to people who want to be thin. as you can see, i do have a weakness in this area. however, i do know a buddhist. hes preaches peace to flies and beats the shit outa humans. not quite a peacelover. i mean, a fly is an annoying insect and has no recognised community. let the fkas die.

Every sentient being has Buddha-nature. There is no difference between a fly and a human being.

Open a writing program.

Paste your message.

You will get the right spelling and grammar.

If ur lucky Clippy might come up and ask if he can help you write a "I hate organized religion" essay.

1) it speaks of "an eye for an eye" in the old testament, when the jews were under control of the babylonians who followed Hammurabis Code. Jesus said to be humble and turn the other cheek, however it wasn't necessarily meant to be literal. Read the entire passage, it says if a soldier (meaning roman soldier) asks you to carry his pack for a mile, then carry it 2 miles. It was meant to be humurous, it had a meaning, but that kinda thing would have been funny to the jews of that time. Your not looking at historical context. Your just repeating everything that newbie athiests say, but have no idea how to back up. If your gonna refute christianity at least do it like Tyrant, and be smart about it.

2) Jihad is an incredibly misunderstood concept. Real jihad is an internal spiritual battle, pretty much against yourself, it was never meant to be real warfare, your just taking what the western media has shown it as. Yet again you are speaking of things you are uneducated about. Also yes, it does say tolerance for women, no women are not equal to men in muslim countries. But the message and the implementation are two different things. Just as communism is wonderful on paper, it becomes a exploitive dictatorship in practice, that's a good parrallel for Islam.

3) Word.

this is why i posted here. to clear up some things. however, it leads me onto another thing, the one thing i realised and made me stop looking (lest i corrupt me mind):

the whole mainline religion thing has been corrupted by peoples interpretations over the time. a huge, long term chinese whisper, as it were. i therefore came to the conclusion that any form of accepted religion concerning god (allah, whatever) is a corrupt form of governmental control. so i stopped believing what supposed knowledgable people knew and opened my eyes.....

i am not an atheist, im a pagan. i believe in the natural cycles of things. and of the spirit world. it has brought me great satisfaction and opened my eyes even further. anybody else is deluding themselve.

It's great that you found your own faith and it makes you happy, however it is quiet insulting to any person of faith that you claim that "anybody else is deluding themselves", you sound just like the fundamentalist christians you dispise.

As for governmental control (by the way governmental was the wrong word bro), that is simply untrue. If you would taket the time to look at jesus' life realistically, jesus was fighting the government. That's the real reason he was executed, he was fighting the state and religious powers that were. He was a victim of capitol punishment, he was nowhere close to a supporter of government, especially an exploitative one. True christians should see this and stop supporting our American government for it is just as bad as the ancient Roman one.

You are correct that most organized christian denominations are "corrupted" by peoples interpretations over time. But if you really wanted to clear things up, you'd look deeper into Jesus' life and figure things out for yourself. You cannot take the whole of Jesus' true message on what you have seen from practitioners, especially fundamentalists. That is like saying all rap sounds like lil' jon, all apples taste like the rotten one you ate for lunch, all white people are uneducated trailer trash, you see where I'm going?

To recap:

Christianity is not a corrupt form of state control, Jesus fought the state.

Believers are not "Supposedly Knowledgable", Einsten said that the closer he got to his unified theories and all his other great discoveries, the more certain he was of God. In other words Christians are not "supposedly knowledgable", most are fairly smart. I have seen ten times as many stupid pagans and athiests on this board than I have christians. That is true in real life also, most "pagans" or athiests you see are stupid teenagers in search of some radical way of thinking that rebels against their parents faith, it's just plain dumb. If your gonna be pagan be like Tyrant (he's the only guy on here I can think of) and be smart about it, research it, be knowledgable yourself. Time and Time again Tyrant has actually backed up his statements with more than mere ideology, he uses logic and his own paganism to support his statements.

As for the natural cycles of things, your beliefs aren't really that special. Hindus, Buddhists, and other eastern faiths have expanded on this idea more than you will ever believe. Not to mention these ideas have been ancient since the days of celtic and germanic tribes, amerindian, and asian peoples have all come upon these ideas and incorporated them into "mainline" faiths just fine. Spirit world? nothing new there either, do I even have to elaborate?

I am glad that you find satisfaction in your beliefs, but so do most christians, muslims, jews, etc. Really your making yourself look like an ass by making the same arguments for yourself that they would for themselves.

You are the coolest atheist I have seen in this forum. Especially for that comment about christians not supporting US govt. policy.
