He was stabbed in the heart...when both blood and water run from a heart, it means that death has occured. (the two do not separate until then) Read the gospels (new testament) if you would like to know the account of what happened.

He was also placed in a tomb, behind an enormous boulder for three days. I don't think anyone could survive that, especially after being crucified.

By the way, the Romans are well known for their perfection of the art of killing. No one would "live" through a crucifixion. They wouldn't have allowed him to be removed from the cross until he was dead. The soldiers present would have lost their own lives if Jesus had been found alive. They wouldn't have risked that. Not to mention they enjoyed killing.

I just watched "The Passion" tonight. The thing that struck me is if someone watching it is unfamiliar with atleast the basics of the Bible, they probably would be quite confused.

Also, IMO, it should have been done in various modern languages. It is nice that it was done in the original (minus latin), but how many people in the US (or the world, for that matter) speak Aramaic, Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.

If i'm not mistaken, the first language that the Bible was translated to, was Latin. Nowdays, not too many people reading latin other than clergy, doctors, lawyers, & scientists...and i doubt if most of them read the Bible in the Latin (or even in the original languages).

I have heard that alot of people who have watched the movie, cried. I did feel sad that my sins were among those that Jesus died for. But at the same time, I felt joy, because God loves me (us) enough to pay my (our) penalty.

someone should really teach Gibson how to direct film. No offense to uh, christ or christians, but mel is a terrible film maker. for example (out of many), what was the point of his excessive use of slow motion? there's a lot of very juvenile items like that, proving how poor, especially in regards to aesthetics, Mel Gibson is [as a film-maker].

Oh, and on a side note, the CGI dove that Jesus looks up to in the sky is hillariously awful.

I didn't say you missed the story, I said you missed the POINT of the movie.

The point was to more precisely and vividly convey the torture that Jesus endured, for us (whether he did it as the son of God for the atonement of our sins, or as a completely deranged individual is irrelevant).

Many people read the accounts of the crucifixion, and don't TRULY understand what it entailed.

Not to mention how severely beaten he was prior to the crucifixion. It was written that he was not even recognizable.

But I guess in this society of overly violent films, desensitization has nullified Mel's attempts at tugging on the heart strings of the viewers.

One thing, though...this reenactment of the crucifixion is majorly flawed in one significant way.

The nails were not driven into the hands...the delicate bones could not have possibly withstood the entire weight of a man's body, under such conditions. The nail would have been ripped right through the flesh.

The nail was strategically placed at the pinnacle of the ulna and the radius, just before the wrist. This ensured that the victim would "stay" pinned to the cross, thus prolonging the torture.

As I have said before, Romans prided themselves on their murdering/torturing talents.

This tidbit of info had nothing to do with what we are talking about; just a side note.

That depends, of course, on your perspective. To some, Satan plays the same role as Prometheus, stealing the forbidden fire from heaven to benefit Mankind.
