Currently, Egyptians are Muslims.

If you mean Egyptian polytheism, your local library should have several. Do a search for 'Egyptian mythology.'

There is realy not one Ancient Egyptian religion. At various points in history they worshiped the clasic egyptian Gods and for a while they worshiped the sun disc Ra. There were also many animal cults.

I know that they used to worship gods and goddesses, but they had no specific religion at all, I never knew that, now I do. What do you suppose drove them to becoming muslims. Very interesting,

Do you know if the egyptians ever got into wicca? I thought they did, but now I'm not to sure. I'll have to check that out.

yeah thats pretty close to the stuff I was looking for. But can you find anything on ancient egypt? thats what I'm mostly interested in.

Wasn't Wicca invented, like, 20 years ago by pissed off lesbians?

Yeah.... wicca was created like.... in the early to mid 1900s. It more started with greece invading, but even then the religions sort of assimiliated and a bit of the old gods were still there. Eventually it sort of faded away, and modern religions came in to fill the void. There's really one rule to creating a new religion: effectivly put a stopper on time and growth (xianity and the middle ages, and make sure it stays that way, no rennaisances for you) or evolve with time so that you're still there.

Yeah.

Its funny, because the way they bastardize ancient religions... its the pagan equivalent of herasy :P.

At the root of modern Wicca were Gerald Gardner and Alex Saunders in the fifties of the twentieth century(*). Inform yourself.

Edit: (*)And, of course, the unseen women behind them and at their sides.

The muslims marched their armies in, took over Egypt, and said 'convert, or die.'

That is how it was done. That's how Islam got where it is.

As a side note, I find it hilarious that the churches at military boot camp can accomodate services for Wicca, a realtively-brand new, made up religion, but not Asatru, a religion that's millenia old.

Oh well. I guess I'll go to the Jewish services when I get there.

Because Wicca, strange as it may seem, is actually Politically Correct, or much more so than Asatru anyway. It always boils down to this !

If you wonder, ask yourself why Asatru would not be P.C. compared to Wicca.

Edit: I didn't know Wiccan services are actually being accomodated for. It's a bit hard to believe.

What's un-P.C. about Asatru?

It's not racist any more than Bahai or Hindu are, which, by the way, are also accomodated in boot camp.

It's also certainly less militant and violent than Islam.

I think it boils down to numbers. There's lot of broads who decided to believe in Wicca in the 90s. I guess a lot of them also joined the military.

I know, I thought so, too. That is the case, though.

Don't ask me. As I said, ask yourself.

Just look again at Wicca and at Asatru and compare both.

The_Rabbi: What's your MOS going to be?

I was going to be a 21B, Combat Engineer, but my newfound marital status has caused me to rethink my priorities.

So now I'm gonna be a 91D, an Operating Room Specialist.

Should be pretty cool, and give me tons of experience that'll aid in my attempt to get into medical school.

Yeh they used to be Coptic Christians.

EDIT:

Read RIVER GOD by Wilbur Smith, it describes the Egyptian Trinity and describes the Egyptian creation myth as well as explaining about their religious hierarchy and other juicy facts.

Plus it's an amazing book, one of my favourites.

Egyptian Trinity?

I have read that book and the only Gods it talks about are Horus, Seth and Osiris. I know there are more than that.

Are they just the three most important Gods?

Uncus

The Egyptian trinity is Osiris, Isis, and Horus. Seth is the evil one.

Search for "neteru", and keep preferrably to academic sites.

What about Isis?

Or Ra?

Or Hapi?

It mentions all of those.

LOL... I was a combat engineer in the Australian army for a while (currently trying to leave the reserves). If you want to go to medical school then operating room spec. will be a good choice. The way things are at the moment you will definately be getting alot of real world experience.

There are many others. Ptah is probably the most impressive, as Ptah comprehends/contains all the other neteru, if I'm not mistaken. And if I am, that's too bad. http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)
