Everyone needs a spiritual foundation. This isn't desired; it is a necessity. It amounts to an end to be strived for, not mere survival. If you don't find it by about the age of 30, then your chances of commiting suicide go up by a hundred. Religions give this to those who are too lazy to look for it themselves. But it is a journey for the religious nonetheless. Many people can point the way for you, but only you can make the ultimate decision on which way to follow.

I personally am a type of Nihilist. I don't believe in angels, god(s), or anything but nature. I desire nothingness, and to experience life all at once.
I'm not depressed now but was horribly depressed, and suicidal when I was religious. Now that I don't believe in anything, I respect life and people alot more.

Interesting. I am an atheist too, but I am not a nihilist. Can you understand that? I accept almost everything that science has to offer, but I don't believe that humans ought to just go on surviving and procreating as the only possible end.
I am an atheist, but I'm not a nihilist: too often the two come in such a sealed prepackaged deal.
By taking this position, one takes on great personal spiritual responsibility. You need to believe that this silly species is capable of doing great things.

We make our own destinies and purpose. We must create our own personal values, codes, and morals. I don't even completely accept science. Many people don't live life as it should be lived, and I haven't yet but I shall. Procreation is surely, and is definitely not the only possible end. A person can be childless and leave behind greatness.
My belief system is a combination of Romanticism, Anarchic Harmony, Naturism, and minimisation of consumption. Similar to what's written by crimethinc, and ANUS (without the shitty Fascist, Racist, and Hierarchal beliefs in some of ANUS' ideas)
I wouldn't say I'm an Atheist, because I practice Psychedelic Shamanism, and other non-atheist stuff.
