What happens to them after they slide off the first page, then into the archives, then so far back that they can no longer be retrieved by anyone? Do they just dissipate into nothing? Or is there an afterlife- a Great Database in the sky?

They just disappear.

There are archives, I don't know if everything get saved or only the things the mods think is worth saving.
