View Full Version : Religious Experiences
Has anybody had, and would like to share, any experiences that would be considered religious, to you personaly. No need for any definate definitions of what this maybe, be it crystal clear satori or drug induced meatphysical frenzy, only that it was religous for yourself. There is a tendency to say that a biologic/chemical cause/effect cannot be religious, as religious requires the supernatural... I would also like to stay somewhat away from that, but discussion of course.
The desire to explain anything, or even speak had faded. There were little to no thoughts, and the world seemed like such a different place with my newly focused attention. Looking at people, each one of them would represent something happening to me at that moment, or a thought I had, a part of myself. The mirror gazing session had definetely changed something, forever, (or at least for that week) It was like searching had stopped, and I was staring into the mirror constantly... I just thought "then... what is this reality but a mirror, and what am I but a mirror of this? I haven't been paying attention all my life but it's been right in front of me"
Some things in the mirror can kinda scare ya though, even though it's just you. I'm sure if you could face them all boldly, your fear would fade forever. However, I haven't gotten that far yet.

mine happened a couple weeks ago. i was hanging with a friend of mine in her room and we she was studying, while i was chilling on the couch. i was just thinking about past memories and i felt pretty happy. about 20 mins later she was ready to go to class and so i walked her and on the way i had this intense feeling of calm and oneness with everything around me, and it was like my vision sharpened to this amazing clarity. i don't remember what i was saying to her (but i'm sure it was profound, haha). i remember it was this incredible feeling and i felt like i could lose myself in it. it was this incredible peace and security with everything around me. amazing. i didn't know what it was exacty, and still don't.
although, i'm in a college class called "women and religion" and in one of the books, Karen Armstrong's "A History of God" it described what the prophets called "experiencing the divine." it was exactly what i had felt.
i don't know what triggered it, or what my brain was doing at the time. but it sure was interesting.
it was about 1 am and i was standing in front of my cabinet and was thinking about god (does he exist, why unrequited love exists at all etc.) when the cabinet shook... http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif)
ooooookay... maybe i was just making a sudden move which caused it to shake... nope, i tried it and i couldn't do it...
needless to say that i was kinda... scared.
next day however i read in the newspaper that a minor earthquake hit the area around that time... (some) relief.
i don't know if this qualifies but anyway. that's as close as it got for me.

Don't think I've ever had a 'meatphysical' experience. But steak isn't bad.
In my belief system, there is no distinction between religious and non-religious experiences.
So AngrySquirrel was actually right on!
