I'm not sure what it is called but women are required to wear long skirts.

Yeah I know it is not a very good description of a religion, but someone told me it before I just forgot. I googled it but came up with mixed results.

Apostolic Christian women in my little corner of the world must wear long skirts. They also must wear their hair in a bun with a small lace thing draped over their head. They also refuse to watch TV or participate in sports. They actually can't be involved in any competition. They do use electricity and cars, but in a lot of ways are like the Amish. Not all Apostolics are this way though...it seems like the ones in my town are from a more strict branch. You might try looking up the Amish or Mennonites. Hope that helps.

That helps alot, the girl in question, does not have her hair in a bun, but straight. She does drive, thats about all I know.

Some eastern orthodox religions require that wome dress conservattivly. Another choice might be Huterite(sp), I belive they split off from the Mennonites at some point and are less anal about technology. For example they dribve cars but only black ones with no bells and whistles even a radio.

Would it be okay if I asked you to begin a thread dedicating to spread knowledge about this? I'd like to learn more... A link would be okay too. Could you give me one on Mennonites and Amish too? Thanks.

Ash, aside from the skirt thing, what makes you think she's of a different religion? By itself, wearing a skirt does not seem to designate religion.

That was pretty much all I know about those religious groups. I am not going to start a new thread because I realy don't think I could do a better job than the people at howstuffworks and the other sites it links to.

http://people.howstuffworks.com/amish.htm

That has some info on the Amish these and amazingly some websites.
