Then what's the point of living now? Why go through the hassle of everyday life when you believe that when you die, you will live in absolute bliss. I don't get it.

Life is a process of spiritual growth. Without life lessons we'd be left wondering "What the fuck???"

That's coz your still learning lessons. And you'll continue to live life and being reborn until you've learnt all you need to know. Years down the line you'll be wiser and life will make more sense.

It's not so much about learning about life, but more about learning about your own consciousness and how it relates to life.

So don't believe in an "afterlife". Problem solved.

Personally, I think I will be fertilizing daffodils and I have absolutely no problem with that. Anything else sounds mind-numbingly awful.

Why do you think it was so damn hard to convert the pagans? It sure sounds like a sweet deal: Give up all sinful pleasures of the flesh in exchange for an afterlife that may/may not exist.

I kid. http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/tongue.gif)

theres about two billion points on each side to prove/disprove this idea. personally im torn betweeb an afterlive, and reincarnation... but you go through life to determine how good your afterlife is. if you live an honest/good life you will have a good afterlife, if you kidd people, you will be taking it in the butthole for all of eternity. but theres also predestination... so with that yer pretty fucked...

maybe you live off your memories, like your spirit is the electrical charge in your brain and when you're dead your brain is electrically charged mush and the electrical charge rots as fast as the brain. think how long of an after life that'd be?

i think i would perfer the reincarnation theory. as my biology teacher put it "we are energy and energy is neither created nor destroyed." I guess we just go to sleep, maybe dream our after life, and die in the after life, and just sleep for a shit load of time, which would be nothing to us and regain consciousness when the conditions are right. of course our memory is wiped clean.

So... are you saying that you're an athiest, or that you will be spending eternity gardening?

Heh. Neither really. I don't like the term "atheist" but sometimes I tell people I am one because it's easier for them to understand. As I've noted here before, I consider myself a "religious atheist." All of the magic and mystery of the universe can't be boxed into neat and tiny categories, and I don't believe my beliefs can be either. You could say I'm comfortable with contradictions. http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

As someone else mentioned, energy can neither be created nor destroyed. I simply feel my energy will take another form. If I was to be buried, I expect my body would disintegrate and I would be food for worms or fertilizer for flowers. (This is paraphrased from a scene in the movie Dead Poet's Society, to give credit where credit is due.) Other people may think this is depressing, but I think it's beautiful. It's the cycle of life and I feel that is something sacred/religious/spiritual/whatever you want to call it. I think concepts like "reincarnation" are metaphors that explain this natural process.

Of course, there may be something "more." I really don't know. Maybe I'll end up in the Christian Heaven/Hell, maybe I'll be literally reincarnated as another human or an insect, or maybe I'll be skipping across marshmallow clouds with unicorns and green dragons. I think these are all nice, fanciful stories. There's certainly nothing wrong with that - I like fanciful stories - I just don't see any reason to interpret them in a literal sense.

Maybe I'll be sent to Hell for an aversion to literality. Who knows?

Think about like when a glow-in-the-dark mask is collecting light and storing it.. i think your pupils do that your entire life until you die and then the energy is trapped in your brain for a while.. thats why i think it would be cool to be like um frozen or in that one kind of liquid that preserves.. bui what if you take a shot in the head? there is no god, or hell. ptretty much face that shit.. think of all the homeless people on crack who go around telling people about crazy shity in their heads and wind up in mental intstitues... jesus was one of those drugheads fuckidillies eh?
