I'm wondering, what is the biggest differences between Russian/Ukrainian/Greek Orthodox against the mainstream Catholocism and Protestant(ism?)

I ask because I was born and baptized into a Ukrainian Orthodox family. However, I am so far... agnostic (i dont believe there is not a god but i dont believe there is one... if thats the wrong term, please correct me)

Well i know if I went into a religion, it would be Ukrainian Orthodox. My Father is an athiest, my mother is... I dont know... she is "Spiritual" she just believes in her own kind of religion...

My grandmother is Ukrainian orthodox.

Now other then Christmas and New Years being different (hey, I get to have school off of christmas and new years if i do become orthodox, score!)

What is the biggest difference? do they believe you should pray differently? do they believe jesus died wearing a purple loin cloth? what? what did they believe thats different?

any help would be great

it is hard to explain. it has a whole seperate tradition. it is not really different from western christianity in very many major theological ways but a few. it is alot of cultural things that are kind of different.

first of all they do not believe in alot of the philosophy that has influenced groups like catholics, and others, however it is not like strictly bible based churches either

it is based on the bible, holy tradition, and other factors. it split away from catholocism mainly over the issue of papal infalibility. they then proceeded to go in thier own direction for a long time. they are a highly traditional group. each church within orthodoxy has it's own differences

ukranian, greek, egyptian. each is very different.

the reason you probably see them as very different is because of the liturgical services. they are mainly based on early byzantine imperial ceremonies. they are so rich in gold and such because it was the glorious rich nature of the services that first pulled in the prince of kiev. it is complicated to explain.

you should really google it because it took me a while to catch onto. it is something I studdied for quite a while.
