View Full Version : Just a Thought
It's said by some that the physical body is not needed for consciousness to exist. Some even go on to say that one day it will be revealed to us that existing in the physical is exactly what is holding us back from truly being free and happy...In fact if you think about it, if you died today as well as all of the other creatures in the world, the universe would still go on fine just existing. So the question I pose is this: If you believe consciousness and the universe can exist without human beings or animals, then why do human beings and animals exist? If we never needed these bodies, then why do we have them? (Obviously this question wouldn't be aimed at atheists or people who believe there is nothing without a physical body)
Some say it's mainly because of desire alone, but I'd like to hear totse thoughts on this.

Well, if we don't need our physical body for consciousness, then what happens when people pass out or lose consciousness? Isn't the cause of that our physical body?
When i'm high i can't remember shit, does that mean that weed affected my consciousness or it just affected my physical brain (memory), and if it just affected my physical brain memory, that would mean your consciousness wouldn't have a memory, therefore coudln't learn anything so what would the point of having a consciousness?
This is just an example thing i thought of, doesn't mean i support it or i support you. Just a potential flaw in your? theory.
I think it depends on how you define consciousness. If you mean our mental capacity then that would cease once our brains cease functioning. But some believe in a 'universal consciousness'. That is entirely different. It is not contained within the brain, but rather exists in all things.
That is the consciousness he speaks of, I think.

This question hits me as being similar to 'If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it...does it make a sound?'
There is the vibration that holds the potential for sound, but the sound is not received and translated into anything meaningful until someone/something is there to hear it.
Maybe we take these forms in order to experience different levels of consciousness.
