A place where you know that everybody else there is also focusing on God. Easier to pray in a church or a mosque than in the middle of the street, no?

...because the preacher man tells em to come, tells em to bring their money too.

For god bet more than he had, and the booky did threaten to smight gods knees, and thus spake god, ye and all the peoples of the earth shall be forced(by threat of everlasting torment) to give up their sundays and lo, they shall bring great somes of money to the church which shall bury the money in the ground where i will dig it out ten thousand years later.

Perhaps it's similar to the Buddhist idea of temples. Buddhists take refuge in the the shanga; which is the buddhist community. So then maybe it's that Christians take refuge in the Christian community. Actually though, many Christians believe that just by going to church you are guaranteed passage into heaven.... and the leaders of the Christian community would like you to believe this. http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif) That's partially (My belief) why the Gnostic texts were left out... specifically the passage about God being found everywhere, not just in buildings of wood and stone.

It's where the priests pass the collection plate.

Because it can be your quit place to pray

(even though those pews hurt your ass) and if you need to talk to the priest. Also that

is where you store the Body and Blood of Christ.

Fellowship, in any form (sports, religion, education, etc.) creates stability, and comfort.

It is also a necessity for spiritual strength (church).

And because, above all other reasons, God said so.

He knows what's best. *smiles*

"Each day prepare your bread as you would barley cakes. While all the people are watching, bake it over a fire using dried human dung as fuel and then eat the bread. For this is what the LORD says: Israel will eat defiled bread in the Gentile lands, where I will banish them!" Then I said, "O Sovereign LORD, must I be defiled by using human dung? For I have never been defiled before. From the time I was a child until now I have never eaten any animal that died of sickness or that I found dead. And I have never eaten any of the animals that our laws forbid." "All right," the LORD said. "You may bake your bread with cow dung instead of human dung." Ezekiel 4:12-15

He sure does.

But then didn't Jesus say something to the effect of "it is not what goes into your mouth that makes you unclean it is what come out" when asked why his followers were not washing thier hands?

Sometimes I used to go into a confession booth and bullshit my way through, making up the most outlandish stories imaginable. Funny thing is though, I'm not, nor have I ever been, Catholic.

Why not go back to the old days and hold sermans on the street corners.. its almost as if churchs are more of a bussiness know days that a place of religion.. like the pleasant valley baptist church here in liberty, MO. They pay the preachers to preach

He does ??? I don't know about that, Charles Thunder. Here in Belgium we don't bake our bread with dow dung. But then we may not have read your version of Ezekiel.
