I was just wondering if we evolved from monkeys how come monkeys aren't extinct?

If we evolved from them shouldn't we take their place on the food chain?

I just want an explanation and friendly debate.

No stupid posts please.

Scientists do not claim that humans evolved from monkeys. We simply share a common ancestor with them.

so why do they have that chart in the museums with the monkey turning into a man.

If you looked more carfuly at that chart you would see that humans are the only non extinct animals on it. The food chain is not that simple, many animals can occupy the same niche.

EDIT: That argument is so flawed most creationist avoid it because it makes them look even more ignorant.

i would like a full explaination of both "theories".

Keep in mind Adam and Eve is just a story.

What do you mean by full explanation?

The theroy of evolution basicly says that there is natural variation and mutations in populations of organisms. And that these traits can be positive or negetive. And a negitve trait will probably result in the organism not being able to mate. If a desirable trait gives an organism an advantage and alow it to mate more the trait will be passed on. The Bibles and many other relious bodies says that populations can be changed like this but not to any great exstent. Evolution says that organisms can change to the point were they can no longer produce fertile offspring with the original organism, that is speciation. Evolution does not include any theroy on how life began, only creationists say it does.

Creationism is usualy based on the belief that God createed the universe and all life in it present form. Depending on who you talk to they will sometimes give a timeline. Most informaton regarding creationism comes from various religous texts.
