Isn't alchemy a mystical science?

Witchcraft = a primarily lesbianic obsession with manipulation of nature, usually for girly things like beauty and flowers and getting back at ex-boyfriends - none of which have any significance in the world of realities.

Alchemy = often thought of as the materialistic science of attempting to put basic metals through certain chemical processes to transmute it into gold, it is, especially in Chinese and Arabic traditions, the art of creating 'gold' in the sense of a state of mankind.

I don't have either the time, patience, or interest in analyzing certain websites, but I can recommend a book by Julius Evola, called The Hermetic Tradition, that speaks explicitly of the spiritual side of alchemy.

Alchemists were trying to live forever. If you are going to do that alot of gold is nessesary. They did manage to figure out alot of stuf about chemistry concidering that they were starting with nothing.

Wichcraft describes many indiginous practices and religions but also modern sect imatating them.

Alchemy is just an Arawbic word for Chemistry, I think. "Al" means "the" in Arabic, and I would imagine "-chemy" would have something to do with chemicals.

Shouldn't this be in Cunning Linguists?

Alchemy was the precursor of modern chemistry. Several hitherto unknown elements, such as antimony I think, were discovered by alchemists.

The idea of alchemy, AFAIAW (as far as I am aware http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)) was evolving spiritually through manipulating matter into higher states. The goal of alchemy was not materialistic, but it is easily understood that "making gold" became quickly the favorite "alchemy" of the greedy and powerhungry.

If you do a search for alchemy with Teoma or Google, you will find results enough.

Vivisimo is an interesting new search engine. It produces "clustered" results. Try Vivisimo (http://www.vivisimo.com)

The transmution of a base metal, lead for eg. into gold.

Or the same, but internal, the base animal nature of man, into the divine.

Which is realy the goal of any prayer/medition as the divine as the goal, most at least I guess, who knows... lol

Just one more way to go about it, read boy/girl< http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)who know Alchemical symobolism!!! I do! how much fun!

You should just look it up in a dictonary, I'm not much good with these things, sorry

I thought alchemy was the search for a way to make an unlimited supply of gold. It probably means all kinds of other things now though.

Alchemy does have to do with gold, but that's not all there is to it. Not that I'm an expert, but what I have read points to the search for the "Philosopher's Stone", which supposedly holds the key to eternal life, special powers, things like that.

Supposedly, ancient societies knew how to make this "Elixir of Life" out of gold, which would account for the God-like status of rulers or pharoahs. Unfortunately, many believe that this knowledge was lost in time.

It also ties in with the Bible somewhat, though I need to do more research. Some think that the properties associated with the Philosopher's Stone (the product of purifying gold) may have been the cause of Christ's supposed supernatural abilities.

And, as others have said, there is an entirely different side to alchemy, a philosophical idea that has more to do with evolving as a species, rather than simply playing with metal.

Anyway, I need to look into it more. Hope this helped anyone that may have been interested.
