But why should the Church feel threatened by this?

Because it would disprove the lies so deeply believed by people. They lies that the Church itself spread. Such as the belief that Jesus was more than a man. By revealing the identities of his children, and their children's children, so forth and so on, who are/were nothing more than human. Which proves that he was nothing more than human.

It also obviously, proves that he indeed had a sexual relationship with Mary Magdelene, and in a way proves that she was not a whore. She was in fact as wealthy as he, however no one wanted them to couple because Jesus was of the house of Solomon. The 'fusing' of to already, powerful empires brought fear to other 'powers' of that time...

It is well known in the Jewish community that in those times it was unmanly and odd for a man of his age to not have wed. Such a man was saw as weak, and unmanly. This 'Golden' rule being broken by a Jew would have caused others not to follow his ways. And us modern folk know even now how important it is to religious folks that their leader or preacher follow the 'ways' of God.

If there were an openly gay Priest no one would listen to him, in fact they'd proverbially cast him to hell. And by 'open', I mean open to the public, the masses. Not The Church itself, for they have, for centuries covered for Priests accused of such crimes.
