Why the fuck did God seperate the unified mankind and confound their language (Chapter 11 of Genesis)?

So they could never work together and do something big like that again.

Man's Pride.

It had developed to the point where man thought he could actually reach heaven if he built a building that was tall enough.

It was the unification that God disagreed with. It was the condition of their hearts.

It was also prophetic that man would be scattered to the wind, and populate the earth.

The builder's of the tower were in open defiance of God's command:

Genesis 9:1 - Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth..."

So, in Genesis 11:3 & 4, the men say, "Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."

The building of the tower would be a catalyst for rebellion against God's commandment for them to populate the earth.

God separated the people to different lands and languages to disrupt their self-destructive plans.

He promised to never again destroy the earth due to man's sin, so He had to present a merciful alternative in order to keep His covenant.

God's will was obviously not being considered during the planning of building the Tower of Babel.

Keep in mind that Babel's founder was King Nimrod, whose name literally means "let us revolt".

He was also the founder of Ninevah, which God's judgement fell on, due to their unrepentance and backsliding. (Book of Nahum)

God will always see that prophecy comes to pass, otherwise He would be made a liar.

In order for the earth to be populated as God intended, The Tower of Babel could not be allowed.

Hope that answers your question.

You are very welcome.

What is the reason behind your asking ? Are you doing a study paper or something ?

Personal knowledge ? If so, for what purpose ?

It was supposedly punishment for mankind's arrogance.

DS is providing the best answer here, but I agree with Pythons sentiment.

In my opinion god isn't a great "person", mostly because he isn't a person. He may be our ideal, but that's only because we're made in his image. We have nothing better to be than that. If that makes sense.

Anyways, god did it because they were creating idols, praying to them before him. They were speaking in tongues he didn't teach them and they were thinking

"Hey! Look at all the great shit we've done! We're doing pretty good without god!"

So, god threw a little temper tantrum and brought them down a peg.

God needs so justification. He is law.

Cheers,

Lost

It wasn't punishment...it was a diversion tactic.
