it's just you... i see absolutely no religious undertones whatsoever in the matrix. it's purely science fiction and martial arts... man, where do some people come up with this stuff?

^hehehe! It has a lot of Christian symbolism, but I'm no huge bible nut, a lot of it just goes over my head. A few examples-

Neo coming back to life- Resurrection of Jesus

Agent Smith- Satan

Nebuchadnezzer (Morpheus' hovership)- Name of some king, can't remember of what.

I always thought The Matrix had massive religious undertones. Neo is definitely a messiah type figure and The Creator? Come on. He's an old white man with a beard sitting in a room watching all of existance existing at once. That's an obvious reference to the christian god.

Frankly, it's really the only thing I like about those movies.

Cheers,

Lost

One could take it either way

The only way to find out if its coincidence or not, is to somehow find out from the people who made it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Matrix_Character_Names

This covers all the names in the movie, including ships and locations. The religious symbolism is by no means all Christian.

i was being sarcastic... the whole philosophical message of the matrix is to scratch underneath the surface of things... the entire trilogy is layered with symbolism and meaning... any given bit of dialogue can be interpreted from many different perspectives: be they religious, philosophical, political, cinematographical, historical, etc...

but as far as a cohesive metaphor, such as peace, love, anti-establishmentarianism, spiritual enlightenment, etc... there are too many inconsistencies - it's really not there... again, the ultimate message of these films is simply to look beneath the surface... not to find anything, but just to exercise a more stimulating, deeper form of thought. to make connections, and find relations... hence, the name of these movies.

so what's the truth behind the matrix flicks? don't forget reality, folks. they were fun, genre-busting movies designed primarily to present a riddle - could these extremely convoluted films that ultimately don't stick to any one message actually make money?

think about it. think about all the money put into them. think about all the innovation. the originality. the mix of genres. the contradicting mores.

..the ridiculousness of having the heroes be morbid, uber-cosmopolitan fashionistas who are kung-fu fighting in a world of high-tech guns and weapons for the salvation of the dregs of humanity.

think about how no one actually understands the hidden point we're all lead to believe exists... and then take the red pill.

Alright, in that case:

Trinity is the Virgin Mary, and she gets shot, but is saved by Neo(jesus), and they have sex and become lovers.

The thing with being able to do things when you free your mind is a very obvious conection to the Bible. Peter managed to at least walk on water for a short time but sank when he realise what he was doing ("Everyone falls the first time.").

austria??? haha, that's hilarious, i hope you were kidding...

ol' nebby was a babylonian king, famous for his hanging gardens, which were one of the ancient world's seven wonders.
