how can we be say something looks like jesus if we don't know what jesus looks like?

Well, it's a fairly easy question to answer for yourself, I don't know why you asked.

It's because of centuries of artists depictions that have become social norm.

But these depictions have changed. One example - most pictures of Jesus until the 4-5 century AD show him beardless. His beard and long hair is kinda what makes him look like jesus to the modern world.

I think people are just wanting their 15 minutes of fame with the whole jesus-appeared-in-front-of-me-but-no-one-else-saw or the-virgin-Mary-is-on-my-toast thing.

I mean, if Jesus was going to appear suddenly anywhere, wouldn't it be somewhere where he could do the most good? Like in the middle of a battleground and not at a breakfast table.

Jesus was probably short, dark-complected, hooknosed, and bearded, like most other guys of the time. I'd bet the rent he DIDN'T look like Jeff Hunter.
