Over the last few years I have pondered religion quite strenuously and have really made no progress in finding contentment. The biggest conflict in morality is the fact that one man’s evil can often be another man’s good. Take for example the terrorists that suicide bombed the World Trade Center. We perceive them as being evil but they are looked at by followers of their religion as martyrs. Enforcing their beliefs is the fact that they actually died for their cause which already is more than most people would do. I am very perplexed at this and it does nothing but confuse me. I truly believe that they died for no good reason but yet apparently many people think otherwise. This whole entry isn’t about terrorism though, for there are other things that serve to confuse me, like for instance: if a Hindu is born and raised to be a Hindu and truly believes with all their soul that Hinduism is the right way to be and something happens that, oh say Christianity is the right way to go, are they condemned to hell? Another example would be someone who is born insane or driven there by some external force, if they kill someone because they think God is telling them too, what then? I know that none of this really solves anything and that it’s probably more of a catch 22 than anything else but I figured it would be an interesting subject to elaborate upon. What are your thoughts on morality and sin?
