"I'm for anything that gets you through the night, be it prayer, tranquilizers, or a bottle of Jack Daniels. But to me religion is a deeply personal thing in which man and God go it alone together, without the witch doctor in the middle."

Here's another:

"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My mind is my own church."

Tom Paine.

So true.

"A being cannot be called into being, a being is itself."

"GOD did not create man in his own image, MAN created god in it's own image."

Myself.

There are serious ethical complications to attributing others' quotes to yourself (the second one isn't yours).

I like that one. Who said this quote? (the above poster said it's not yours)

I saw that second quote not long ago and tried to make a big deal out of it I think its really clever and profound.

Can't remember who said it though, it was someone on here when I heard it but THEY probably read it somewhere.

It's a really old quote, no one here came up with it first. But Thaery may not be deliberately plagiarizing.

Don't we all sometimes come up with what we think is a really cool new idea, only to find that some other guy said it fifty years ago? And doesn't that suck? http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)

That line's in the Satanic Bible, by Anton LaVey. He probably wasn't the first to say it, tho'.

It's true though....

Churches with mainly black congregations will have their pictures and icons of christ, with black skin, as with white, and hispanics.

yup, you do know you've hit a kind of oxymoron there dont you? God is descirbed as "supreme being" "creator and ruler of all" "infinite in all attributes" - all in the collins dictionary - so your quote cant be right, for man to create god, man would have to be god - so god created god in its own image? you, my friend - are an idiot

man can however create his own gods, they are not of the same type as the above mentioned, they are more "idols" - money, sex, drugs - for instance

created isn't used in the literal sense. i believe god (in the quote) simply represents the idea of god.
