Does it really exist?

And if so, how do you get there? why do you stay there? how do you get out?

I heard only catholics believe in it, but feel free to prove me wrong

Can't prove hell doesn't exist nor can it be proven through scientific means that it does exist.

Just remember that the name for hell in the bible was "Sheol". This was also the name of a garbage dump outside the walls of a city. They burned dead bodies in this dump as well which reeked of brimstone. Makes one suspect the this is where someone got the idea for hell from.

yes purgatory is a catholic belief. i've not heard of a protestant church that believe in it (if i remember rightly luther,calvin and zwingli all rejected the doctrine).

and yes nemi gehenna was the municipal dump of jerusalem.

A friend told me that hell was made up by the church to scare people into being good. His arguement was that since God was all forgiving people wouldn't be affraid to sin, so the church invented "HELL".

The Catholics somehow figured out what the worst sins were and made them mortal sins. Suposidly if you die without getting absolved or saying the act of perfect contrition(sp) you will go to Hell. Other sins are veniel sins, you don't go to Hell for these but they add time to your stay in purgatory. You can get time taken off by being granted indulgences for doing things like saying certain prayers every day, being a member of an orderm, tipping your hat when you pass a church or yelling "Jesus" in a non-swearing way.

I am not Catholic I just have a manual missal and access to the internet so corect me If I am wrong.

Don't you just love all the hypocracy? Also,what's this BS about all sins are equal in God's eyes? Um, excuse me but stealing a piece of candy is not equal to murder.

Also this guy on T.V. was preaching about how if you just looked at someone else and had any lustful thoughts you had sinned. Give me a freaking break. I would think it would be that if you didn't give in to those thought after having them them.
