Alot of people have been taught that you have to go to church in order to show respect to God.
But. There was a document that was uncovered in the middle east years ago. It was written in arameic. This was suppost to have been the language of jesus. This document was suppost to have been written by jesus himself in the ngiht the soldiers cam to take him away.
This document stated that God isn't contained in the walls of temples but everywhere in nature and most importantly in our own hearts.
The vatican denounced it right away as a fake. There are many scholars that believe it to be the real thing, and that the church is affraid if you believe this, they will be out of a job.
Don't know if that's true or not, but I thought it might apply to your question.
Its a lot easier to meditate and pray properly in a church.
The preacher is just there to help us interpret the bible i suppose but then again i stopped going to church when i was 13 so i wouldnt really know.

I don't see how?
because everyone shuts the fuck up and they have the candles and the music and the random preaching in the usual calm fashion.
Its not like the normal world where everyone are strangers there you are together as a community its kindof sad really but church brings together people from all lifestyles and for that one short hour everyone is equal,no one sits around talking or generally being annoying.
i dont know really.

Because church hypnotizes you
into believing what goes
totally against logic and
common sense.
You go to learn the teachings of the Bible. The preist helps you by explaining it for you and putting it into situations for you to understand.

I do believe church is primarily for clarification of doctrine, socializing (strengthening community ties), and discussing ecclesiastical matters with those who understand them well.
You don't have to go to church, but many people certainly seem to find it helpful and at least occasionally useful.

Church is good for the social aspect - the support, the stability, the ritual of it makes some people feel comfortable. I'm not one of those people and I happen to believe it's a mistake for people to go to a church, listen to one mans interpretation of the bible, and trust his word.
But, that's just me.

to pick up chicks (okay, they probably won't sleep with you immediately, but they're probably loyal). or, more generally, to build communities and social networks.
Most western religions are very "community" emphasized. Christianity is one. Christians meet in church because it provides a good enviroment for their children. Children can get a good foundation on the faith while they're growing up. It also allows for fellowship. Doing everything together helps get a Christian Comminuty of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
It's also like a million year old tradition too.
Because it gives you a false sense that you are a good person?

What about the churches with African-american priests? They seem neat.
