It's simple, if it is enjoyable, the catholic church probably thinks it's a sin. If it has anything to do with sex but doesn't get someone pregnant, it's a sin. If it does get someone pregnant but you aren't married it's a sin.

I was saying that in the way a Christian/Catholic would say it because they blame anything they don't like on the devil.

Actually the majority of chrisitian churches are "catholic" churches, even the protestant and Eastern Orthodox ones(which is what I assume you mean by "christian churches")...

Most people refer to the Roman Catholic Church as THE Catholic Church, but the other branches can be considered catholic too..

The real answer is that masturbation is a sin because it is a form of self-mutilation... not sure why, didn't really go the indepth into (this was from a private school)...

This is the verse normally used by the church, or other religious figures to show that masturbation is wrong.

The believe of the church is that it is a form of birth control, and as we all know, the church finds all forms of birth control -even condoms - to be "wrong" and "taking away from human life".

If they were concerned about killing unconceive babies it would be ok for women to masturbate but not for men. The last time this came up the general answer was that masturbation is a form of adultery because you usualy need to think about someone to get it up/get the juices flowing.

That is indeed the passage normally butchered to mean "spilling your seed is evil" but the truth is, if I recall correctly, sunday school was quite a few years ago, Onan was ordered by God to impregnate his brothers wife, he refused, spilled his seed and was struck dead.

He was killed for disobeying god, not for spilling his seed.

The formal term for "masturbate" in German is "onanieren". The name Onan is of course Semitic, but the verb is of Latin origin, as with all verbs ending in "-ieren".

Before modern science came about about and tought us that sperm fertiliezs the egg and then forms life, the chruch beleive that sperm were acutally litte babies that needed to be "housed" in the womens fetus. Thats why they say "taking away humans life".
