"They bore the wounds of christ". They cry and sweat the blood of christ.

What is this? Is this stuff really true? Just seen a show about it on Sci-Fi. They said they most famous case was Padro Pio. He saw a vision and the wounds of christ began to appear. On his palms he had gaping holes where he would bleed every 24 hours, and every night he would then begin to cry the blood of christ.

Have you guys ever heard of this?

Yes. It is very famous.

There are lists of people who were affected by stigmata but also theres research into the psychology behind it (meaning te people did it to themselves to get closer to Jesus blah blah etc.).

Some are recent ish (1900s I believe) but many are pre 1800.

Watch the film Stigmata...its not correct, but its an ace film.

My take is that it is real and it happens to people who believe in God massively (the christian God). They need not worship him (this is one of the main points in the film) it is just aslong as they believe in him and pretty much 'know' he is there.

Except the marks don't accurate represent a crucifixion. The palms aren't strong enough to hold a person up. The nails were put through the wrists. If they were put through the palms, rope was used around the wrist or arm to hold the person up. So their wrists should bleed or they should have rope marks along with the palm marks.
