View Full Version : God Gives us Purpose?

I've heard a lot of people say that the exsistance or belief in God gives them a sense of purpose, I've never understood this.

Say if God did create us, and we are rewarded with an afterlife if we do not sin - it still does not really give any sense of purpose. It explains where we originated - possibly, and what becomes of us after death but nothing more.

Were still born into this point where all we acheive is death, and depending on how good/bad we've been - an afterlife.

Infact, if we did prove the exsistance of God we would be left with less purpose - we don't have any questions to be answered, nothing to debate. Just sitting around, waiting for Heaven.

This is not saying "god is bullshit, go kill yourself" I just want to hear what some believers - regardless of religion - would say.

Our main purpose is to have a relationship with our creator and to eventually see Him.

Even then we still have special things we can do. Even if Mozart never sinned would not his purpose still have been to create beautiful music? Jesus never sinned and he obviously had a purpose.

i think our purpose is to spread the word and let all people to know god.

and its impossible not to sin ...its not sinning that gets you into heavan, its admitting your a sinner and confessing and sking for forgivness

"...its not sinning that gets you into heavan, its admitting your a sinner and confessing and sking for forgivness."

This is one thing I've never understood (and yes, I know that it has been brought up before).

The only way for the flawed creations to gain the good grace of the creator is to admit their own flawed nature and ask for forgiveness. Yet, a flaw in any creation shows an inherent flaw in the creator. This should be common sense... but maybe I'm just missing something.

If your poorly built house collapses... you blame the builders for doing a horrible job. Duh.

On the other hand, if our flaws were entirely intentional, then there is no reason (that I can think of) to punish us for being exactly what we were intended to be.

If you intentionally raise a vicious attack dog, does it make any sense to punish it for attacking another person?

Again, I may be missing something. However, I have never seen an acceptable explanation for this perspective. By all means, enlighten me.

- Have a nice day.
