Down the street from my high school there is a funeral home. Somehow, years ago, this club that I am the president of, TSA (its like an industrial arts club), started performing a pallbearing service for the funeral home. Whenever a family doesn't have enough men or enough willing people to carry the casket, we are called, and pallbear for them. I've done this about 20 times or so, and its no big deal. All we have to do is sit through church with the family, and then take the casket to the cemetary. I've never had a problem with the normal catholic ceremonies, except that they run a bit long. But last week I had to sit through a service in a church that was a basement of some old building in town.
It was the American Anglican Church. Right there, you should note a big problem. The Anglican Church is also known as the Church of England. Wasn't the basis for the American colonies the idea of GETTING AWAY from the Church of England???
Anyways, the condescending asshole that was referred to as the "priest" of the ramshackle organization felt the need to tell the story of a Youth Service he went to before he "found christ." The priest there told the story of life being like a mountain, with god at the top, and us at the bottom, and there being several paths to the top. The christian path was in the front, and around the back was the Muslim path, the Hindu path, etc. The asshole then goes on to say how once Jesus "came into his life" he realized that the other priest was wrong. The only true path is the path of Christ. He even went on to say that the other priest LIED to the kids about there being more than one way to heaven.
I'm not very religious, at all, but i don't feel the need to debate the existence of god, if you want to believe, go ahead, its your choice. I won't force what i believe on you, and don't force what you believe on me.
Father Asshole then took the liberty to personally invite all of us sitting through his bullshit to accept Christ, through him. He led some kind of prayer, consisting of an "I'm Sorry," "Thank You," and "Please," so that Christ can redeem us of our sinful ways.
Is it just me, or was that totally out of line, trying to indoctrinate people at a funeral service? That was the only time ive ever been literally offended in church.
Sorry it was so long, any thoughts?
