View Full Version : How do you justify, what can not be justified? How do you forgive yourself?

One of my biggest things with being a christian now, is that I have argued against the bible for the past four years of my life. I know that God forgives me and forgets that which I have said and done, but how can I? How can I imagine myself standing before God on the day of judgement and him tellings me that the seeds of doubt I've sowed into others brains, causing a sudden confusion and comsumption of doubt, caused them to lose their faith and go to hell? How can you say sorry for being the cause? How can you feel, knowing that you're the reason they perish?

Pray to God to help you. For help in seeing your sin as He sees it.

you yourself sound pretty confused to me... are you sure there's not a budding seed that's been planted in your own brain, that is causing you to lose clarity?

There is nothing wrong with searching for the truth.

God knows what has been done to the bible.

Think about what you're saying here...

If you've asked forgiveness for things which you have done in the past, yet are still trying to justify them or explain the reason you did them, then apparently you're still just trying to make up excuses for these very sins you're asking forgiveness for. I think the point of asking forgiveness is realizing that you have done wrong, irrespective of the circumstances or causes, and accepting responsibility for doing it. Any attempt to justify or explain these sins in a way which makes them look less wrong or unacceptable (even to yourself), essentially defeats the point of asking forgiveness, because it ultimately means you're trying to ameliorate the sin with a "it wasn't so bad" attitude rather than take responsibility involved in asking forgiveness.

I'm not a Christian, but I do believe that what you're doing is counter-productive with respect to Christianity.

Wrong. I can't justify what's wrong. God knows all. How can you tell someone why you did what you did when they know your real intentions. I was wrong. There is no way to justify ignorance. Ignorance just is. I know God's forgiven me, because his word says he does. I can't forgive me though. I can't stand before him on the day of judgement and see those people I made doubt God's word suffer for all eternity. It's like facing the truth. It's shame. How could I hold my head high, and see what I caused? Even to be told, "I still love you." Even knowing that God himself will wipe the tears from my eyes, it doesn't make me feel less shameful.

If god forgives you, then why do you care?

People choose to believe whatever they want? you didn't force them to actually loose there faith, you mearly showed them there could be an alternative, it was up to that person in which direction they choose to go after that
