From a Christian point of view, I think it's that 'sanctity of life' thing. God gave you the bit of life you have, and if you kill yourself, you're effectively saying "No thanks God, you gift isn't good enough for me."

This makes God an unhappy panda.

This is another case where religion, in its absolution, shows that it leads to man's suffering instead of his salvation.

'Thou shallt not kill.'

Even yourself.

Religion(christianity really) doesn't say you can't kill yourself, it says you shouldn't. It doesn't force one to make any decision regarding their life.

Could you explain yourself?

i mean...i guess it would be a sin because isn't god supposed to take and give life (you know being the "almight one" and all)? so if you kill yourself it's like you are trying to take his job...right? ...oh what the hell do i know i'm an atheist

I am referring to euthanasia, war prisoners, victims of torture etc. Suicide is understandable sometimes. See "Johnny Got His Gun". Religion shouldn't be absolute in such matters.

Another similar topic is abortion. Religion's position favors the well-being of cells to the well-being of a living human. Quite hypocritical when it doesn't show quite the same motivation against war.

You do know that the church does allow certain suicides, right?

Jumping on a grenade to save lives is acceptable by the church. Marytrdom is also acceptable by the church, though I do not know if this applies to political and social martyrs also.

Euthenasia, not so much liked by the churchm but they also do not stop you from doing it.

Abortion is a completely different topic, so I won't even deal with that.

If your Catholic then you'll rot in hell. If your christian then its a sin but because of what Jesus did for you, you can still go to heaven.

Killing yourself to save someone else, or killing someone else to save someone else?

Either way, I think Christianity opposes both.

Not that I'm the Christian-of-the-Year, anyway.
