View Full Version : The Pope is bullshit. So is the catholic church.

I'll keep it short since I know most &totse users don't like to read any more than a pamplet.
I was in the doctors for a very long time and I had the misfortune of watching the news in the waiting room. They showed John Paul II dead on an altar and hordes of people coming to see them. Then it cut to some young bitch (20 something, black hair?) she was CRYING.
Why was she crying? She didn't even know the guy. Actually, wait a second, why are millions of people flocking to see some figurehead who died? Why are people PRAYING?
Maybe they're crying and praying to God for all the millions of people who died in The Inquisition, The two Crusades, meaningless "witch" burnings, responcibility for the holocaust and jew hate (research it)...
...And lets not forget natives, phillipeans, irish, africa, south america, india, any other people they have attempted to brainwash/kill/subdue.
Not to even mention all the children who have been molested by men of the 'cloth'.
So I really hope it's followers are crying and praying for forgiveness of THOSE SINS, not some figurehead of a church who does little than say:
"Well, we should donate money ..."
OR:
"Lets organize xxx event..."
Oh yeah, one more thing, I forgot the THIRD CRUSADE: "The War On Terror", so keep that in mind when you tell little Billy to pray before he goes to bed.

Short and to the point.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and explain one more time.
Being a former catholic, I KNOW you are not supposed to worship someone other than God. (idolism)
They are treating the Pope like God.
They can't even police their own fucking employees. Molesting children for christ sakes (pun intended).
Yes, he died, thats very sad and all,
but what did he do? Not a goddamned thing.
On a global scale, he did no more than I did (sit around and masturbate).
So how does that truely help society, relgious or not? Oh wait, it doesn't.

No they're not. They're mourning the head of their Church, not worshipping him. You must have been a really shitty Catholic.

I'm not one to defend a religion that focuses on life after death at the expense of life, but there are some things you need to get straight.
Maybe they're crying and praying to God for all the millions of people who died in The Inquisition...
First of all, there were four.
Second of all, the last one - the Spanish Inquisition, to which I assume you're referring - ended in 1834. This is almost 90 years before Pope John Paul II was born.
...the Two Crusades...
There were close to eleven total, ending in 1272. This would be about 650 years before Pope John Paul II was born.
(Note: This is not counting the lesser Baltic Crusades, the latest of which ended around the 16th century, only 320 years before Pope John Paul II was born.)
...meaningless "witch" burnings...
Wrong Christian denomination, wrong time period, wrong ethnic group, wrong, wrong, wrong... just plain wrong.
...responcibility for the holocaust and jew hate (research it)...
1. The man who would become Pope John Paul II became a priest a year after the end of Second World War.
2. He was the first pope to visit Auschwitz, had visited Yad Vashem and touched the Wailing Wall, and has apologized to Israel on behalf of the Catholic Church for its involvement in the Holocaust.
So I really hope it's followers are crying and praying for forgiveness of THOSE SINS, not some figurehead of a church who does little than say:
"Well, we should donate money ..."
OR:
"Lets organize xxx event..."
Far too early in the morning to retype pages you won't read, so I'll just point you towards This number here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Paul_II#Church_Career), and hope that you take the time to note the "Life's Work" section that proves he did more than you ever will.
Have a good evening.

As I have been scolded repeatedly for saying, here it is...
HE IS BEING WORSHIPPED !
Anyone who thinks otherwise is purposely blinding themselves to the truth.
The Pope's body is dead. His soul is most likely in heaven now.
Jesus said, "Let the dead bury their own." because once the flesh expires, it means NOTHING ! Ashes to ashes...
These people don't need to congregate to cry over the Pope's death. The are worshipping his body, and not the glory of God through his time here on earth.
It's sickening, and Catholic Christians should really take a hard look at what the underlying problem is with how John Paul's death is being blown way out of proportion.
Showing respect is one thing...but some of these people are losing their minds at this altar.
Are they really thinking about God up there ?

What are they mourning, again ?
If they were truly Christian, they would be praising God for this...because John Paul is probably in heaven right now, enjoying his reward for his service to God on earth.
The death of his body means nothing, from a spiritual perspective.
Would I be sad if my child died ? Of course. That's my selfish human nature.
But I would also understand that God is in control, and that she is up there with Him, which would bring me a great deal of solace.
But that's my CHILD.
There should be no wailing from the flock over his death. He did his best, and now he is gone.
I hope I am not sounding too calloused, because I am really trying not to be, but I have to wonder...
When was the last time these people WAILED over the death of Jesus ?

In Tyrant's link, I found the follow:
"Cardinal Ratzinger told international press: "the Pope spoke to me in German and Italian. He was completely lucid. I brought the Holy Father greetings from the plenary of the Congregation for the divine cult which is meeting at this moment in the Vatican."
The divine WHAT ?

I must say I'm surprised to see fundamentalists of christian denomination on &totse.
I read your post in the defense of "The Chruch" and I've read the wikipedia article. I haven't changed my stance.

The establishment is suddenly off the hook
because their current idol isn't born yet?
Sorry doesn't cut it. Yeah, sorry, we instigated the murder of about six million people, can you forgive us? Wait, Adolf Hitler and all his buddies aren't even excommunicated! But we'll apologize anyway.
And nevermind we excommunicated every communist... those in the nazi hiarchy are off the hook for killing those penny-pinching jews!
A very good friend of the family majors in holocaust history and was invited to Krakow some years ago as part of the "Judiac-christian councel" as to remember the holocaust and preserve the memories so nothing of this magnatude would happen ever again. He pointed out that no jews were there and he called the bishop (christian) of Krakow a hypocrite:
Bishop: "I think you should leave."
Friend: "...And I think you should go to confession!"
Regardless, saying sorry or doing public relations visits just don't cut it. You know how much the catholic church has? You know how much they donate? A small portion.
The Pope needs his armored limo and such.
Not to mention his bodyguards.
It doesn't matter if the church spent the money to feed every starving child in whatever third world country (there are droves of them). It's not just christianity, it's religion as a whole.
Religion has killed more people then anything else, MEANINGLESSLY! My fucking eight grade teacher back in the day told me that, yet this was a private school the church only 150m away from the school! She was a follower of the goddamned church across the street!
I'm not attacking only the Pope, I'm attacking the establishment and the idea of religion itself. Just because people need to feel *important* like they have a reason to exist, they need to do foul things to each other and make shit up in a book.
I mean, is it that hard to grasp that me or you have very little impact in the universe, or this planet for that matter? Can you live with yourself after thinking about that, or are you breaking down and crying and going to mass to look for "answers" to excuse your reason for existance?
Not only that some COUNTRIES actually base all their affairs, policy, everything on religion. (Israel) Which of course, is a very dangerous thing for everyone else.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I laugh when I see some fool laughing because a man in fancy clothes is dead on television.
There is more I want to write but this is getting pretty lengthy already.
They should be crying for another cause.

People cried when Regan died, people cried when Kennedy died, and people cried when previous Popes died, etc.
It happens all the time.
The people who follow and support political/religious figure-heads become attached to them personally. Although, I do find it funny that they aren't rejoicing his entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven, but rather, mourning his death.
Meh. To each their own.

So what you're saying is, as a Christian you have no right to mourn the loss of someone because their earthly body means nothing and presumably they're in heaven?
That's the stupidest fucking thing I have ever heard. Of course the Catholic community have the right to mourn the loss of their Pope, regardless of whether or not he's laughing it up in Heaven. The loss of a man they "loved" deserves a little bit of a cry, dont you think?
Digital_Savior
2005-04-06, 09:27
There is certainly a difference between mourning, and losing your mind, don't you think ?
You should see some of these people...they have taken vacation, even quit their jobs, to be there !!
They are focusing on the body.
To suffer the loss of the person is fine, but to stand over the body and lament is ridiculous.
And yes, they should be rejoicing in his ascension to heaven, if in fact he made it.
The rotting flesh of what was ONCE John Paul II doesn't matter, even a little bit.
They could be mourning in their homes, not hovering over the carcass that was left behind.
Don't you think ?
I am from a Catholic area, and I live in a Catholic area now. I don't know a single person who really cares more than casually.
That being said, I think the people crying over the pope do so because of a lack of personal/emotional life, and the death of a church figurehead gives them something to let out their pathetic cries over. That is, they are weak people in general.
I still don't get how you became so brainwashed, though, Digital Savior. It's really quite pathetic. You are so anti-Catholic that it makes rabid atheists look normal.

Wow, mouth-breathers actually quit their jobs to see a body?
That reminds me, when 9/11 happened of course my mom came to get me, the principal wanted everyone to pray in the church, I mean, she was really pushing this on us, my mother, being so witty replied with "We'll pray at home." and then we sped away.
That was a really hectic day.

- She was crying because something that meant a lot to her died. Something that was a piece of her soul died. It may not mean anything to you or to me, but that's life. I mean she may cry when her mother dies and you wont because it doesn't mean anything to you. Don't ever try to judge someone elses feelings. Especially about things you can't understand.
Maybe they're crying and praying to God for all the millions of people who died in The Inquisition, The two Crusades, meaningless "witch" burnings, responcibility for the holocaust and jew hate (research it)...
- I'm not going to defend the catholic church. We all know they've done vastly fucked up shit. But, the late pope isn't responsible for all of that. That's like saying Bush is responsible for all the native americans dying of small pox.
And now I'm closing this thread. Not because I'm catholic or give a shit about the church. But, your thread is stupid and unfounded and I find it offensive to those possible members (I don't know any, but I'd be sure to welcome some) of the Catholic faith.
Cheers,
Lost
