I hardly ever find a Priest who is from the country he does his priesting in. So why are there so many foreign priests not in their original country? Is it to keep the Priests out of the local politics?

no idea but back when i was a very devout catholic it didn't seem to matter where in europe i went to confession, the priest always turned out to be a rabid, irish, jesuit who was slightly to the right of gengis khan.....

It's just the way that it has been for a while. To Catholics it doesn't matter because they are all one faith. it's a non-issue here. For example at my old parish we had a priest from Kenya and another from Italy.
Also, there are a lot of priests that stay with local parishes too, many more than those that travel to different countries.

Well I figured it was done intentionally by the Church not a life choice by the priests.
When I was Catholic, we only had American priests. I believe they still do, though. I've never heard of foreign priests, to be honest.
