I do not know much about Satanism, but I do know a little about Alchemy. It is closely intertwined with a Christian philosophy of the soul, spirit, and body; of the cycle of rebirth; and of corruption versus purification. It also borrowed ideas from Greek theology, not necessarily as a belief in Greek gods and such but as archetypal characters that fit in with the alchemist's mystical views of nature.
The symbols were mostly for hiding the alchemist's secrets from the ordinary man. After all, they thought they were dabbling with divine methods of creation -- the powers that God used to create the world. It certainly wouldn't be good to let such information fall into the wrong hands. They went to great lengths to put all their work into code, which is one of the things that has hampered modern studies of ancient alchemy.
I'm not sure if they had some deeper meaning behind the symbols, though. For most of them, I suspect the answer is "no". Also, there are some materials that have several symbols that represent them.

if we told you, it would no longer be mystical
Okay, this is one of the many satanic/occult viewpoints.
Satan is Ea, the Sumerian god that created us.
There were many other gods that came to us thousands of years ago in Egypt, that taught us things like magick and telekinisis and meditation and all that great stuff.
Then this bastard desert god came along, his name was Jehova, he wanted us to be nothing more then animals. By persuading us with fear of going to hell and all that BS, he gathered quite a few followers, and then with the story of the nazarene, gained control of ~ 1/3 of the world. Jehovas & his angels are actually bad and want us to be stupid, and Satan (Ea) wanted us to know the truth, the truth that we can become as powerful as gods ourselves.(the serpent teaching Adam and Eve the knowledge of good and evil) Jehova lied, and told us we would die if we gained this knowledge, when really he just doesnt want us to be as powerful as him. What I just typed may not 100% be accurate to theirs, and it is not my viewpoint.

Ok, I can only really speak from the stand point of ritual magic and thaumaturgy, although it does bear close simularities with alchemy as well.
In a nutshell.
If God created everything, and before god there was nothing, then all by definition must contain an element (Or shard) of the ancient of days.
Therefore it is posible that that within each of us can be purified and refined until we become as god.
Most ritual magical theory traces itself back to egypt, which in turn traces itself back further add infinitum. So what you are dealing with in all you're enquiring about holds a common thread tracing itself right back to the damn of mankinds first furitive groping in the direction of spirituality.
The common goal of all magical practice is to "Storm the gates of heaven by force", basically to ascend above the petty human condition.
You can't really describe it because most of the what your dealing with is intensly personal and unique to the individual.
Id suggest you sign up to WWW.OCCULTFORUMS.COM (http://WWW.OCCULTFORUMS.COM)
and browse what your interested in there, but the more you read the more your going to realise that its all the same, just coming at it from a different angle.
In fact, once you've become aquanted with all these subjects, and done some research in comparative religion go back and read the gospal and you'll realise that they're saying the same thing, and that the life of christ is largly alagorical.
Don't let Daggnabit catch you though he seems to take some kind of exception to this for some reason http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)
