So I'll admit up front that this has to do with an essay assignment in which I have to argue a position. I've already written the essay, but it's not long enough. I can't think of anything else to say (aka...I need to provide more evidence/support). My thesis argues that they ARE religious texts, in case you were wondering.

To get the discussion going...I would say it's obvious that the Ugaritic texts are religious documents because they include the names of several divinities. Do you disagree with this point? Why? (I'll just attempt to counter it in my essay).

p.s. Religious Canaanite history is boring :P

if thats your stance then what im writing now is a religious document becaues its got {god, allah, jehovah, mithras, zeus etc} in it. a religious document is not defined by what words it has in it. a religious document is to do with religion, be it an aethist point of view or not. i think you're looking for 'is whatever a "holy" document?'

dude arguing if something is religious or not is one of the biggest wastes of time in the world. i think what your question is getting at is something different to the one your posting here. you might want to tell us the origins and bases of these documents are seeing as i doubt many of us have read them or even know what they are.
