Discuss the character of Lucifer. Does his portrayal coincide with the Biblical one, or is it more sympathetic? Less so? Is Milton's description of events accurate?
I think Milton portrays Lucifer as though he was a human reacting to the circumstances in which he found himself enraptured.
Then again, I only recently read the first forty pages of PL.

It's fiction. It's more sympathetic because we get his side and he's one smooth-talking guy.

Well, seeing as how lucifer CHOSE to leave God, and God let him b/c of the free will thing, there never was any battle was there? Furthermore angels/God live outside of time => there's no change. Can't have a book without change can you, so yeah, Milton took some libeties with the book.

He did show change in the temporal world, though. Yeah, as for a battle- it was more of Lucifer getting his ass relocated.
